Spiderweb Software games

Post by S4ur0n27 »

These are the kind of games I'll buy and not warez, so are they worth it? If so, which one should I go with? Avernum, Geneforge, Exile? Can I start with the third installment of a serie or not?

Is the story any good or is it mostly combat and no story?

Geneforge. You must play Geneforge, it is one of the best games ever made.

All the Geneforge engine games (Avernum, Nethergates, Geneforge [duh]) have a lot of combat, and frankly, use a shitty combat engine. BUT, they have great roleplaying options, kick-ass settings and plot and are overall quality games.

totally check them out, mang

Should I start out with Geneforge 1 or can I jump to the third one which was released this year?

I thought they looked heavy on combat from the descriptions. Is the combat engine really that bad? Is it annoying?

I would recommend starting with 1, as the sublimity of Geneforge has thus far deteriorated with each successive installment. Certainly, more bells and whistles, yet a weaker plot. Though not by much.

Personally, I think Exile/Avernum are both worth it, lots of fun and in certain ways superior to Geneforge. Play Exile first. Nethergate is fairly amusing, also, though I remember it being quite short. Which is probably more a case of being spoilt on length with their other games. :drunk:

I prefer Geneforge for personal reasons.

The combat engine is bad/annoying because it doesn't show how many APs it will take to move from one spot to another and because once you attack, it automatically ends your turn.

the combat is boring and having endless amount of gay enemies doesn't help. Get 1 and see how you like.

I tried Avernum 3 and I found hard to enjoy it really. Just try one and see it by yourself.

Given that there's huge, free demos availible for all Spiderweb games, just try them yourself you lazy fuck.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

I always thought spiderweb games were ok, except that they cost money. There are better freeware games out there... but I came close to purchasing that ancient Romans vs. Celts thingie.

They don't cost money if you only play the big ass demos. They're at least worth a try. Or check out the reviews over at the Codex.

Stop the advertising, swell guy!

I downloaded the demo for Geneforge 3 yesterday, but I was too tired and high to even try it D: I laughed to the menu though.

Geneforge 3 is the weakest of the series. Get 1 and 2 and pretend the 3rd one never happened.

Avernum 2 and 3 are the best Spiderweb games.

Blades of Avernum is pretty fun too.

in BoA you make a party of dudes and load them into a HUB and then you just go on mini-campaigns with them and gain loot and levels, with different campaigns requiring different levels.

Theres alot of player made campaigns to play too, so you basically make a party and play through a shitload of campaigns and become super jesuses. B)

Super jesus must be that new prestige class I've been hearing so much about.

I want to like the Avernums, but the actual game screen is so small that my old, decrepit eyes can't tell what's going on. "What's my squiggle doing to that other squiggle?" The Geneforges don't have this problem so much and let you create your own army of naked monkey-men.

Avernum 2 is my personal favorite, but 3 is like the San Andreas of the series in that it's pretty similiar to the previous games, but a little more refined and there is a SHITLOAD of stuff you can do and the game world is fucking huge
