Make dumb suggestions so we can ignore them. I'm lovin' it.

Fix the stupid advertisements

Post by Wolfman Walt »

Fix or change the stupid advertisements that keep crashing peoples Internets. I don't care about American Express cards so take that shit out and replace it with something more relevant that doesn't break my computer.

I wasn't aware that Adblock handled flash ads that were imbedded into the HTML.

The internet redeems itself - again.

Even so - other folks who aren't computer savy may want that fixed. Or something.

I think the ads appear randomly, so the admins wouldn't be able to change much about it, anyway?

Besides what's so bad about crashing computers, maybe those people then learn the harder way that internet isn't all wunderbar and dandy and that one needs to know a bit about security to maintain a computer in the harsh world of the internets? :salute:

Maybe a radiated warning sign might help, like not only the Wasteland but the whole forum gets one?

All the ads are geo-targeted, which means there are hundreds of different ones seen by different people. Complaining vaguely about one ad doesn't help me much unfortunately. The best thing you can do is take a screenshot of the ad in question and describe exactly what happens with it. That way I can submit that info to the advertising provider and have it removed as soon as possible. So if you can take a screenshot, please do.

Strangely enough, immediately after posting this message, the ad stopped occuring. It was an "American Express Blue Card" add which would automatically expand itself to half the size of the screen. When it expanded it would cause an illegal operation in IE and shut down all of my Internet windows. If I see the ad again, I'll make a screen shot, but I guess my demand was answered prompter then I'd have imagined. Good work Taluntain.

I take back the good work. The ad is all over the place and I've encountered it 3 times in the past 4 minutes, crashing my explorer twice.

People who use Internet Explorer are infidels that need to die in a holy Jihad.

The ad's been reported to the advertising provider, but since it's the weekend it likely won't be fixed until Monday. In the meantime, I'm looking for a new advertising provider...

The Flashblock Firefox extension works pretty well. The flash ads don't load (so some pages load faster too).
