China secretly preparing for the Great War

<p>Washington Times story <a href="http://washingtontimes.com/national/200 ... reports</a> about satellite photographs showing China's secret nuclear forces buildup.

<blockquote>
<p>Commercial satellite photos made public recently provide a new look at
China's nuclear forces and bases -- images that include the first view
of a <strong>secret underwater submarine tunnel</strong>.</p>
<p>"The Chinese have a whole network of secret facilities that the U.S.
government understands but cannot make public," said the official, who
spoke on the condition of anonymity. "<strong>This is the first public
revelation of China's secret buildup.</strong>"</p>
<p> Disclosure of the underground bases supports analyses of Pentagon and
intelligence officials who say China is engaged in a secret military
buildup that threatens U.S. interests, while stating publicly that its
forces pose no threat.
Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said during a trip to
China in October that Beijing was sending "mixed signals" by <strong>building
up forces in secret and without explaining their purpose.</strong></p>

<p>If you are not afraid yet, you are a moron. Or Chinese... Personally, I'm already regretting selling my <a href="http://www.nrapublications.org/tar/Cent ... p">AK47</a>.

Oh please, this is the same sort of crud that made everyone think "the Reds" were about to invade in the 1950's. Take a look at the Cuban missile crisis sometime and you might be more afraid about what some of the US Generals are quite willing to do. Every nation has a right to have underground facilities (Cheyenne Mountain anyone?). The fact that China has some too doesn't mean they're about to attack "at any second".ApTyp wrote:If you are not afraid yet, you are a moron. Or Chinese...
... and of course they're building their forces up "in secret". It's not as if the United States (nor any other country for that matter) issues a press release whenever it moves a nuclear missile.

FOIA, arms treaty verification protocols, budget line item listings (aside from "black"), etc.DarkUnderlord wrote:Oh please, this is the same sort of crud that made everyone think "the Reds" were about to invade in the 1950's. I'll bet the US military is one of the easiest to keep track of.
If we assume on the part of the US military a level of intellect on par
with the First Monkey, they're not going to be putting anything over
on anybody.
But they might just go do something hasty.
well...
personally, war is fairly inevitable i think... It'll take a while, but China is expanding and will eventually "need" more land/resources to maintain it's self... I don't really care honestly... Nuclear war is quite survivable and while I don't exactly "welcome" it, I could give two shits less if the bombs dropped tonight... Hell, it might be interesting if nothing else. But not that i'm partial... We're just as much of an expansionist nation as they are... We're not a country filled with saints, cept Saint Proverbious. ';0)

Re: China secretly preparing for the Great War
When you look at it closely its accaully government propaganda an example "OMGS LOOK HIS GOT A SECRET WEAPON" (or infact base, what ever floats your boat) and while everyone has there back turned hide your weapons and whistle and walk off. Quite a simple but effective plan really.DarkUnderlord wrote:Oh please, this is the same sort of crud that made everyone think "the Reds" were about to invade in the 1950's. This looks like a ''placed'' story. Outside of the titillating entertainment value,
speculate on the motivations behind this - story - , defense budget line item justification or tough talk to massage a target audience.
Still.
It's too late.
The MAIN-LAND is already here!
And the funny part, we have, we do, we will be paid, pay, be paying for it!
