I'm in the mood for a game of some sort. Only I'm not sure what. What games are you nignogs playing right now?
I did have an inclination to try some old dos games from the underdogs or something, but I am constantly reminded that 1: I am running windows XP, which is fucking gaybots when it comes to dos games. 2: Dosbox last I tried it, was a real sack of shit and required heavy arbitrary tweaking which often made the game you were trying to play, suck a whole truckload of balls in the performance department (arbitrary when your consumate dos knowledge was navigating around using simple commands).
So. Anyone know of any decent titles that are either downloadable (and presumably legal, abandonware for example) or currently in stores and purchasable (since it seems pc game titles have a shelf life that spans in months these days).

Have you tried Space Rangers 2? US release in March.
It's okay, it's like Sid Meier's Pirates but in Space time instead of Caribbean sailing time and it's got lasers and cannons and completely random universe every single playing time. Gets equally boring towards the end as Pirates though.VasikkA wrote:Have you tried Space Rangers 2? US release in March.

i'm playing age of empires III and i-war II at the moment. good games, both of them. of course, if one is of the downloading persuasion, one could easily get hold of them through torrents. however, i sleep soundly in the comfort that no-one at dac would ever commit such a dispicable act as torrenting a game, for example through this abominable site.

I haven't played this http://taspring.clan-sy.com/ yet, but it's supposed to be good. Total Annihilation remade in 3D with more features and stuff. There's a long discussion of it at Penny Arcade: http://www.penny-arcade.com/forums/view ... p?t=211828
More screenshots and other downloads are there. I bookmarked it for later.

As far as old games, the first X-Com runs on XP easily. The dl and installation details are here. Jagged Alliance runs on XP just fine. Get it at Abandonia.
For newer free games, Fileplanet has Ground Control and Hidden & Dangerous for free.

The AI is pretty wonky sometimes. Your own guys might suddenly do suicidal things and enemy soldiers have annoyingly good aim. But it's a lot of fun if you're in a patient mood and you like crawling around trying to line up a shot on an enemy position. I liked it a lot better than Rainbow 6 or any of the other squad-based shooters.

I played it halfway through until I got a to a mission I simply couldn't complete and eventually gave up. My memories of it are that it was terribly buggy, the controls were awful and the game crashed every 15 minutes. If you like that for some reason or if there's a patch out, you could try it out. Some missions were enjoyable, though. For tactical squad-based WWII goodness, go for Commandos.

It's going to win some awards, I'm sure of it.
Just go to www.spidweb.com and look around there. I've loved their games for years.
Endure. In enduring, grow strong.
