So howabout them games? I'm looking for decent ones to play.

Discuss anything from Age of Empires to Wasteland. Any gaming talk that isn't Fallout-related goes here.

and enemy soldiers have annoyingly good aim
While I enjoyed the game to an extent, yeah. The enemy soldiers have robot like reflexes and precision. So you're more or less reduced to always hitting them while their backs are turned. Since a straight up fight will leave you dead in no time.

I heard people say good things about that game, I picked up the original Thief, gold edition/ Thief 2 bundle in the bargain bin today. Thief 1 was kinda cool, but Thief 2 sorta pissed me off. Thief 3... eh. It had neat ideas but it just wasn't Thief. It was... something else.

Then again. From what I recall of Thief 1, there was a lot more leeway to actually progress through a good deal of the levels and attempt to murder everyone without stuffing your objectives, and that's what my favorite thing to do was.

I also miraculously found a way to run SS2 on XP without it going apeshit. So I'm going to try that out, I always really liked that game.

I also had a game of JA2 1.13 mod on the go, but I always end up getting half way through and then it's just a lot to manage. Keeping cities from being reclaimed and all that. So I usually look for a change of pace at that point. I wish Ja2 could allow you to play more like insurgents and less like revolutionaries.

Did anyone ever play Chronicles of Riddick? I never really thought much of that game, however it was supposed to be somewhat decent. If only for a game that provides a few hours of enjoyment.

The original Thief is undisputedly the best of the series of two. You need not more.

If you've not played No One Lives Forever (NOT THE COMPARATIVELY SHITTY SEQUEL), do so. If you have, do so again.

I really liked that game. So far it's probably the best space sim I've played. X-wing vs. TIE Fighter wasn't as good even though the graphics had improved.

The only problem I have though is that I used to play it on a Mac with a mouse, and I think that, in the Windows version, you can only play with a joystick.

Seriously, we should put a coop together. I never went further than the box level, partly because I was tired of boxes, and partly because I kept getting scared shitless.

I tried to reinstall the game today, but Windows XP had some trouble with it. I tried all the 'fixes' I could find, but to no avail. :sadblinky:

Ah well, I'll try to install it on my Windows 98 box tomorrow. STAY TUNED. :aiee:

You can use the mouse on PC.

Apart from Tie Fighter, always loved the two Freespace games.

There are "pre-patched" torrent versions that are fixed to work with XP right off the mark. This is what I did. I know the status of SS2, abandonware or not is disputed, but as far as I'm concerned, if they're not selling it and not making a profit off of it. I'm going to get it any way I can. Especially if it works.

Now if you're playing SS2 and it's copping out on you after like five or ten seconds of play, what that might be a result of is running SS2 on a dual processor system, or hyperthreaded systems. You need to run the game, alt-tab out, then get to the task manager and find the executable listed usually sshock2.exe or whatever, and then right click, and highlight and click affinity. Then make sure it's set to use only one CPU.

You must do this -every- time you run the game, otherwise it won't work. Then you should be good to go.

Sometimes the sound cuts out on me and shit, but that rarely happens and overall I get good performance from the game. So give it a shot.

I've also tried playing duke3d with the latest windows ports... that was a very short-lived trip down memory lane.

Well, I've been playing "Starcraft" lately which is always good and runs perfectly on XP.

I've also been messing around with a borrowed copy of Relic's Warhammer 40k game "Dawn of War" which is surprisingly good if still a bit pricey.

Actually though, if you want something you can pick up real cheap I'd recomend "Baldur's Gate II" and the expansion "Throne of Bhaal." The series is kind of anathema around these parts but I played through it last month for the first time since it came out and it has held up marvelously in almost every respect.

If you're more of a shooter fan though: "Clive Barker's: Undying," great game and unfairly forgotten.

I have yet to know a person who's forgotten Undying. It's horrifying and it's full of weird balance and jumping acts in other dimensions. How can you forget something like that?

I have unddying downloaded but when I played it, it reminded me a lot of Bloodlines horror house. I should probably try it again because there is no way in hell to get system shock 2 to run on my comp. Please dont give me suggestions to how to fix it because I've already tried every one of them.

The only PC games i've been playing are Battlefield 2, because i'm too lazy to play anything else.

I dl'ed Far Cry, Gothic I+II, Indiana Jones FOA, Fable, Star Wars KOTOR, Total Overdose and "Der Klomanager" (which translates to toilet manager or Klofrau) lately, but was too lazy to install any of them.

Which of them are any good and worth playing? :salute:
