Video game advertising is taken to court!

Post by Wolfman Walt »

Apperently the future of TV ads depicting video games is hanging in the balance! Or atleast according to an IGN Article which tells of a British consumer watchdog claiming that the Call of Duty 2 ads were false advertising. For those of you unfamilar and living under a rock away from a television, the ads are 3-d renders depicting generic World War II Nazi's trying to give heroic American troopers a hug with their Mp-40's and Panzers. Apperently the 3-d renders are misleading as they do not depict that actual graphic quality of the game. The ASA (advertising standards authority) ofcourse accepted this argument and rejected activisions counter argument of "Everyone else is doing it" and as such was acting on "good faith."

Ofcourse at the moment this only effects Teatime and the rest of the UK, but accordingly, it may be a trendsetter. Not like its any great loss, but it's ugh....well potentially a problem for anyone wanting to get into marketing?

Do keep in mind that these are the same types of people who sue the city when they jump off of a pier labeled "NO SWIMMING" and crack their heads on a cinder block.

Retards are like Terminators, they absolutely will not stop until you are fucking dead. And by dead I mean, "Mentally blasted into a state of likewise retardation."

It's not like ads are for information, or something. They are there to make stupid people buy shitty stuff and make ad companies rich. So, in conclusion the judge is even more stupid, or something? :)

It's not like video games commercials on TV are common, atl east around here. I've seen some advertising for Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia, but only because they've been developped in Montreal.

I suppose it depends on the TV channel. Alot of the bigger games get ads everywhere (Call of Duty did for instance) lesser games get relegated to audiences they know the game will appeal to, for instance, G4 viewers would be a prime example. Still, TV ads for video games are fairly common in civilized parts of the world.

I'm lucky to live in a cultural haven. No MTV, no G4TV.

It would be fitting if they'd release an expansion where you'd have to defend your actions in a court of law. Just think of the possibilities; looking for loopholes in civil rights agreements, having buttsechs with the judge in his quarters, bribing the Jewish members of the jury or storming into the courtroom with a 9mm Parabellum.

"But I vas only taking ze ordars, herr Judge!"
"Zey looked like civilianz to me!"
