Old video (at least a year?) but still awesome. I recently noticed those flying beasties soon after Will left the ocean. After watching it all, from the tribes to futuristic tanks to populating other planets with new creatures to destroying planets in other solar systems across the galaxy, I can't help but wonder how much of that is gonna be removed by the time Spore nears release. All of Will Wright's past games started out so much greater and were widdled down to the simplest of forms.

Glad to see creativity still exists in gaming. The evolution of the 'creature' looks great. Tis the first time I see live gameplay of Spore. How can you not like this game?

Isn't it meant to be released at the end of the year? No way

If it does just some of the stuff said though it'll be fun, so I guess we can't lose huh hombre. There's also a new games con soon for another vid, like this month or some banana shit! Boy howdy.

I like the mating call.

And I'm pretty sure Will Wright's gonna deliver. My faith in him won't ever fade.

..great, another game rushed by EA.. *sigh*

While it looks great, I think it'll get extremely boring after a short while.

Even if you have evolved through time, from cells to space-faring creatures who terraform and destroy planets, which to me seems like a long process, then what?
Start over?

Sure it'll be fun to see what others have made from there, the first maybe 5 or 10 times, but I can't help this feeling that it'll be so incredibly boring very fast...

Kinda like The Movies.

Well, I don't think this game lacks replay value if the evolution part works as it is supposed to be, meaning you can 'beat' the game with a completely different strategy every time, depending on your creature(carnivore, amphibian etc.).

I'm a bit worried that the scale is too large, though. The creature's abilities seem to become useless when you reach the global scale RTS part. This is where I would slowly lose interest and probably start a new game. I don't really care about flying around with a UFO and building shit on planets around the galaxy. Conquering the planet with my self-designed hideous freak of nature is enough for me.

Not to mention that your creature seems downplayed..
Will wants the game to be huge, by having many players input in it, and I think that overshadows the single users interests.

I am very interested in playing it, and it's definitely technically amazing. My concern is that since it has such wildly varying gameplay the only parts of it will be fun for some people, and other parts for other people. Folks who are waiting for the RTS portion might get frustrated as they go through the evolution portion. Folks who just like the evolution portion might stop playing once they reach the Sim City portion. And there may be people who are most interested in the space exploration/finding life portion of the game, but they have to go through a lot of other styles of gameplay that may or may not appeal to them to reach it.

But hopefully, each of these sections of gameplay will be compelling enough and interesting enough to hold up throughout the game's entirety.

That's basicly the cool part. I got my creature thing, my building/weap/vehicle design and it's competing on a real world scale. But as said, you go through the whole process, then start over - I'm not sure how much joy that brings in the end.

EDIT: Anyone remember the evolution platformer for the snes? :chew:

Past games like SimLife, Earth and Sim City had scenarios where you started further along in the game. I see no reason why Spore cannot include scenarios where you can be a premade tribe defending itself from something, or a technologically advanced society. It would be ridiculous to have to start from scratch every time.

Also, his most successful game, The Sims, was boring as fuck after the first time you take a shit.

Well if it makes you feel any better I beat Walt to posting about it by only a few hours. Crisis nearly averted.

I like how the game looks cool, but obviously isn't going to need a dual 7800 whatever the fuck and a billion gigs of bullshit to run well. It'll probably need a good amount of RAM, though.

What the hell does that mean? Those screencaptures look way too Nintendo for me. I liked the white/green bacteria pool better.
