Space Rangers 2
Space Rangers 2
So NL kept harrassing me about this game : "play it!", "it's the best game ever!!", "it rocks", "I'm a homo", "get it", and on and on. And so I thought "Damn, this guy is a homo". But then Nico went at it, too, so thought they were both homos.
But then I decided I should try their weird way as well, because hey, you never know until you tried it.
So yeah, I guess I'm an homo too, because this game is awesome The startegy part sucks a bit because it's just too long once you're in one of those fights, but the rest of the game is just so incredibly bad ass. It's like Pirates! except it's fun. And it's in space.

I like how they only give you hard ass quests in the beginning. It's like "go deliver this guy to the Ocelon planet in the Proton system which is infested with Dominators", when you just came out of the tutorial. It's still fun and I like how they really don't babysit you. You're just sent right in this crazy war.

once you get the phat engine that clocks you up to 1000 killing dominators is easy. just kite them around the sun and shoot at one or two at a time. If you do it right you can send their heat seeking missiles into the sun or nearby planets. But yeah, it gets boring after a little while. Just like Pirates! but at least there was no dancing mini game.
The answer to your first question is shaddup.
You don't have to play the strategy portions if you don't want to. They're fun the first time around, especially building you're own custom robots.
Only problem I really have with the is combat because, well, there's just not much you can do with it. It's not very involved, which is a shame.
The quests can be a wee bit annoying too, with all the "go here, deliver that, fuck that guy in the ass et cetera" but the text quests totally make up for it. Those things are hawt

This reminds me of my adventure with Cave Story. Just replace "homo" with "wapanese" and nicks with "Anonymous"S4ur0n27 wrote:So NL kept harrassing me about this game : "play it!", "it's the best game ever!!", "it rocks", "I'm a homo", "get it", and on and on. I totally skip the RTS battles.

The best thing about this game is that you're free to explore a dynamic universe full of traders, pirates, other Rangers and so on. The universe lives its own life, completely independent of you. For example, you can team up with other rangers/fighters and go on a co-op attack against Dominators and 'liberate' a system in the galaxy. There's a huge war going on in the galaxy, which is randomly created every time you start a new game. Don't mind about the screenshots as they only show the RTS part for some reason and is the weakest part of the game, in my opinion. You can choose what quests you want to do and they change frequently. I don't know if there's a demo, but check out the short movie.POOPERSCOOPER wrote:I've been meaning to try this game but I don't know if I will like it. Looks like a strat/sim for star trek nuts.

Well yes, text adventures were awesome, I must admit that much. Especially managing that ski / holiday center / hotel thingie was fun. Merchanting is nice in the beginning if you have a huge ship, since at early levels you get the shit beaten out of you so there's not much choice than to buy low and sell high. Later you will get humongo-huge cannons at your ship and you can blow those pesky space pirates out of the skies
Simply don't accept the quests or don't finish them in time. Or if you're in RTS mode, retreat from the battle and you'll be thrown into jail, which is another fun text adventure but gets repetitive if you do that often. The universe is full of planets, so just choose the quests you want to do.S4ur0n27 wrote:Also, VasikkA, how can you skip these RTS battles?
