I really look forward to the day when you say: "It blows. I wasted 4 years of my life on this? Oh well, gotta go work on Fallout 3 now. That'll probably suck too but hey, the guys that work around here like sucky games I guess."MrSmileyFaceDude wrote:I'm addicted to it. I find it a lot more compelling and fun than Morrowind. That'd be a career-limiting move. If I felt that way, I probably just wouldn't say anything at all.
Heavens forbid anyone there at Bethesda be honest and forthright. Ever.MrSmileyFaceDude wrote:

(Still remembering quite a few Morrowind interviews and press releases.)
Obsidian:
Now working on Fallout: New Undermountain!
They promise to spend only a year on this title - only a year less than the original Descent to Undermountain!

This was blatantly obvious right from the beginning, you just had to look at the screenshots to understand that the draw distance was going to be absurdly small and occlusion would be heavily used to create more detailed close-up visuals.turned around and looked at my more immediate surroundings and realized that the draw distance was awful. As you walk around, the ground teems with individually rendered blades of grass, bushes, mushrooms, all sorts of stuff. But only a small radius around your character is fully realized -- the rest of it is drawn in, quite visibly, as you move around.
This is the HD Era? Watching bushes and trees pop up out of thin air as I walk around? At one point I was heading towards what I thought was an empty forest clearing, when big-ass chunks of building started magically appearing. Come on. (Or maybe I was doing so well in the game that its denizens had started building shrines to my glory.)
Of course it's not going to play that well, Morrowind and Oblivion was and will be nothing more than a tech demo showcasing the capabilities of the current console of the month. This says a lot about where the sophistication of the average gamer is going... that is, down the shitter. Yes, there is the initial amazement at the high detail (yet heavily occluded) visuals, but after that you realize the game is boring, it runs like shit, and they spent way too much time trying to create a game that looks good on box art and preview screenshots than when you're actually playing it... unless of course you're the "special" kind of person that does things like, sniff household chemicals for amusement, or perhaps purchased "midnight club II: dub edition".
Furthermore, even if my computer could run the game without much difficulty. I would still be offended at the insinuation by developers that as I'm playing a game, I'm only interested in insignificant details happening two feet in front of me. Consider what this implies about what this company thinks of the overall intelligence of it's potential customers. It's disgusting.
YES YES YES YES!I hated this in Morrowind. You know why I can't comment on whether Morrowind was good or not? Because the game insisted on pausing every 10 seconds to load the next block of trees
FUCK YES!
Every single computer I played this game on ranging from 1.8 to 3.2ghz did this, and it fucking killed it for me.
I care more about performance than visuals typically and to have a smooth gameplay experience is worth a sacrifice in visual quality, but there was absolutely no comprimising with that game and therefore I found it completely unenjoyable.
More or less...So while Susan's statement in that it was a "high quality" game may be true, they put alot of effort in it, it just wasn't very good. It was high quality in effort, but low quality in fun.
