well, i think, they are Small Guns, because they use a solid projectile... okay, that bullet is eeeh shooten by some energy stuff, but still solid...
most energy weapons are not solid, like a laserbeam or a plasma-thing...
so i think they should be small guns... a Gauss Pistol and Gauss Rifle for small guns, Gattling Gauss for Big Guns
A PlasmaRifle uses energy, while a Gauss Rifle uses somekind of bullet... i guess... yet i wasnt using Railgun-type-weaponry in real life...

as far as I know gauss rifle uses pure steel bullet accelerated by magnetic field in barrel, this wider places on them. so I would classify it as classic gun, not energy because bullet is not some energy like laser beam or plasma but solid steel. but you know, n00b am I
