I first got Farcry on the recommendations of this forum and it turns out that I wasted 20 dollars.

That fucking game is horrible and I completely agree with St. Toxic.

I thought FarCry was alright, the story was really lame and stuff but the gameplay was pretty fun. I liked sneaking around in the jungles and attacking some village. I got FarCry from recommendation of these forums too and I didn't think it was good as MadMax was making it sound but it was still worth the monies.

I liked the start, the jungle atmosphere was pretty orgasmic, but the trigents fucked everything up.

I played on realistic, just to see if the ai would wake up. It didn't. Running up to an enemy soldier on the beach, waving my gun and shouting still didn't trigger any response. Instead they'd shoot me in the head from the other side of the island when I was crouching in the jungle. It was so realistic I uninstalled in fear of finding myself in the same situation in real life.

I liked the first 4-5 hours of Far Cry. I was especially impressed with the physics engine; jumping into water and shooting a rope holding a rubber boat that was dangling from a bigger boat to escape the enemy was pure awesomeness. But once you got inside and got to killing mutants I quickly lost interest in the game.

Far cry didn't have a good thermograph sim like they showed in the preview movies, but then added it to instincts.

Fucking queer.

had it not such a shitty ballistics model, and didn't require such heavy modding to move it away from playing like quake. I'd have enjoyed it more.

The trigens ruined the game pretty quickly. My main concern was just that they looked really dumb. The outdoor levels filled me with a delightful childish glee, however.

The one thing I like about the demo video is that you can fully customize your gun and stuff. Which is a pretty nice touch for an otherwise dumb first person shooter. Also I like the glee with which the Brazilian developer guy destroys the rainforest using the machine gun. The, like, mist and stuff looks pretty good too.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

I played the first half of FarCry. I think the gameplay is pretty good, but HL2 is much, much better, mostly because FarCry has a fuckin' lame story...
However, FarCry had been a revolution in gaming because of it's graphics and physics and it has a great impact on later FPS games. I doubt that games like Call of Duty 2 would look like it look without FarCry and HL2.

I read a lot about Crysis, they hired a profesional scriptwriter(they don't want to give away his name, so it' probably some shithead) and they expect the plot to be "breathtaking", the graphic once again will be a 100% revolution. But what I think will be the best, is AI, of course if the developers say the truth. The enemies won't be guided just by algorithms. They will be independent AI systems with sensors that react on situations. This means that there will be no scripted oponnents that always do the same thing, every "load" will give us a new reaction. This should apply also to bosses, like giant alien spiders or other developer's stupid ideas.

Unfortunately I hardly doubt this will run on my machine :hahano:

I think the seemingly non-linear environments in the first half of the game was more :che: than the graphics and physics. In my opinion, the graphics in Far Cry were rather candyish(a very different look than in Call of Duty 2) and advanced physics have been around, well, at least since Soldier of Fortune.

I agree about that, but

The climate and style of graphics isn't the point in graphical revolutions. The effects and technologies that were presented for the first time in FarCry can be used to achieve any type of candyish and non-candyish graphics.

WTF?! You don't mean that in SoF1 had a phsysic model that had anything to do with those from FarCry, or HL2 :?

What graphical 'revolutions' do you mean exactly? A few new lightning effects or other technological gimmicks hardly isn't revolutionary. The game ran well in large outdoor maps but so did Operation Flashpoint or even the old voxel-based Delta Force. I know my jaw didn't drop to the floor because of the graphics the first time I played it.

I meant the character modeling(or ragdolls, if you prefer) and destructable objects in SoF, but I give you that physics had a role in Far Cry. Still, you couldn't shoot through thin walls or mow down trees etc. Or do you mean the vehicles, hang-gliding, whatever? Please specify.
