DoW Dark Crusade Trailer
At least it's ingame..
nothing paticularly fancy, but Necrons are in it as well as a monolith.
I was hoping to see some Tau. They will also be in the game.

Mental scars. There was this mod, which aimed to make DoW more TT-like, taking stats from TT and applying them to the units. It was fantastic, eveything had a role, it all made sense and so on(I.e. unupgraded infantry really couldn't do a shit against vehicles - not a single point of damage). It was so great I couldn't even play without it because it was so brilliant.
But then they released newest edition of the mod, they started applying ruleset from TT - half of units doesn't shoot while moving(No assault weapons), you start with commander and two squads, and many other features I'm too lazy to check for. They tried to make it TT in real time with bases. In short, it sucked.
So now I can't play anything else because it's not fluffy enough, and I'm stick with old release of the mod. I'd probably could mod it to my liking(Mod is unfinished despite going on for two years), but the dev tools are completely incomprehensible to me.
Woe!

Serious Business.
Upgrades were same as DoW - because WA streamlined all this shit so badly, practically every mod reverts back to DoW. The thing was that buildings and upgrades costed only power, while units only req. It worked nicely.
Generally they did helluva work on this, they've rewritten all armor types, and they based all units on their TT stats - including their cost. So, Baneblade was like 3000req, but it was death incarnate, not to mention almost indestructible with it's Heavy Vehicle armor. Also few new units were added, such as Havocs/Devastators for Chaos/SM. Weapons were tweaked, no more of this "tanks can't kill infantry" RTS bullshit - lascannon kills infantry unit in one shot, usually.
Some units got their tiers changed(I.e. Eldars have Dark Reapers in tier 4, but they wtfpwn with their ungodly range)
Why don't you just see it yourself, looks like the file is still up.
There was also another "closer to TT" mod I found after beta 3 of Rebirth was such a disaster, I never got to check it out though so I don't know how is it.

Yeah, they basically land on a planet and eat all living things on it, then move on.
Genestealers land on a planet first and form Genestealer Cults, when the cult is strong enough and the planet is rich enough they send a psychic signal to a fleet which comes and kills everything. Then they dump stuff into some kind of pools where it's digested, and they take if off the planet.
Don't quote me on this though, I don't know much about 'nids.

That would be a really close call though. Certain IG infantry armies can field over 100 men quite easily at a moderate points game. Tyranids however can match that if they don't use a godzilla list, which is effectively all big creatures like hive tyrants, carnifexs and the like. A tyranid swarm list that used warriors for synapse and piled in large numbers of hormagaunts and termigaunts would probably out critter the IG. It would be only just though.Spazmo wrote:It's been explained that there will be no Tyranids because the DoW engine apparently would not be capable of doing justice to them.
I think that's kind of odd given that the Imperial Guard is supposed to be the army that gets the most minis on the table, but hokay.
I think the problem was something to do with multiple limbs on the tyranids and less so the overall numbers.
As for what Tyranids are, they're basically 'outer galaxy' invaders that destroy all life that manages to get in their path and make more tyranids. Over time as the hive fleet moves through digestable space which is us and virutally everyone else but Necrons they evolve over time. Basically the tyranids have aquired large amounts of human and other species DNA and have used that to remodel their swarms. So that's the basic explanation behind why they have so many different kinds of creatures, their weaponry and their mutations and such.
As has already been explained, tyranids typically just wander through space to planets in their particular travel path, land on the planet and slaughter all the inhabitants. Upon successful and even during the battle, they convert the planet into a kind of biological 'soup pot' so to spreak. They then throw all the biomass, people and such forth into large ponds that are broken down by tyranid derived bacteria [IIRC]. These soups are then sucked up by the hive fleet in orbit around the system and used to make new tyranids where they then move on.
Genestealer cults may or may not be involved in this process. They are often used to simply 'discover' planets that the hive fleet may be interested in but aren't always an indication that a planet will be invaded. There are tyranids all over the place from hulks that entered the galaxy millenia ago that haven't particularly done anything.
Also, if you want a more interesting DoW that is more 'fluffy', isn't as hideously dumbed down as WA and is actually much better balanced try:

It's a lot better than WA IMO.
I have returned from my dark slumber....
