The only mod I can't get to work

Post by norton »

Ya I can't get this one, read the read me's and even manually loaded files to the suggested directories, still get the can't find rebellion.mis file, or a blank character show's up with all attributes of 1.
I got the others to work just fine ie "what" and "evildead" etc.

Anybody else have this problem? :?

If it says "cant find rebellion.mis," that means you haven't started the campaign yet.

Rebellion is a 3-mission mini-campaign, so in order to play the 2nd or 3rd map, you have to play the 1st :D

Trying to start from the 3rd map is impossible - it's like stating the normal game from Macomb or Buena Vista.

Just download the other two Rebellion .zips, install and play 'em, and the third should work fine :D

Note that some people can't get the speech file to work automatically for them. There's a BUNCH of threads in the Mapping & Modding forum about how to manually assign it. Here is one such thread.

If, when you start up any of the Rebellion or Jailbreak maps, the speech doesn't work (i.e. there's no mission briefing or info in the circles on the minimap), just follow those instructions in that thread, and yer set.

Also, if you start up, say, Rebellion1, and the speech doesn't work, you might want to manually assign the speech files for the other maps while yer at it :D

If you've had problems installing my mini-campaigns (Jailbreak or Rebellion), I recommend you try my (or someone else's) standalone maps -- those are a lot easier to install and use. As far as I know, I'm the only one who's released any mini-campaigns, so any singleplayer map you download not by me is a standalone map. I've also made a good number of standalone maps. Feel free to check DaC's singleplayer map database for a bunch of maps to play. After you've installed and played a couple of 'em (and posted in this fine forum about your experience Image) you'll know a lot more about installing and playing user-made maps for FOT, so installing and using my mini-campaigns will be noticeably easier.

If you have any problems, feel free to ask.

I'd watch it when installing MV's Deathclaw Desert series though, they're good, but install directly into the core folder so you have to make backups of your original files. They also overwrite each other so you're best installing and playing them one at a time. Hey MV have you thought about re-releasing some of your early work set up for installing, using the -path option?

Nope. I actually don't like having to use the -path method -- 90% of the technical questions I get are, "How do I get the -path thing to work?". All one needs to do in order to not to have to overwrite the original files is to copy/paste the entity name_'s and desc_'s from the characters.txt and items.txt into the maps' speech file(s) and save said speech file(s). Note that I haven't actually tried that yet, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Oh, and some of the DD maps have the entity info (hey, there's a new entry for the "Mappin' Lingo" thread!) in the speech file already (DD3 and DD4 memory serves). DD5 had it in the speech file, but I did something I shouldn't have and the dern thing stopped working, so I had to put the entity info in the generic txt's.

Oh, and I highly recommend people play the DD maps in order *grin*.
