oh, I should have picked up on Alpha Centauri when trying to find out ACish strategygames.
But Ive nevar played the Aliencrossfire expansion thingy.

I was thinking bout centauri the other day.
Pondering why they havent released any sequels/remakes, like with civ.
they should.
Could do with a facelift.
And then thoy could slap out 2-3 further expansions.

One of the best things about AC was that it had everything it needed on it without any expansions - multiplayer included. Civs have always this same pattern: you release the "basic" game with pretty average shit and ten bring out two or three expansions with stuff that should've been in the game in the first place.

yah, thats why I never bought Civ3 directly, I got a used copy -> not adding to sales.
expansions should expand gameplay.
And that is always possible, even if its just adding new units and chit.
Noone wants to buy shitty expansion or expansions that shouldnt be expansions.
So, when I write expansions I mean summit that'd extend the lifespan of the game. Not summit that shouldve been there.

Edit:
you fucktwats, now you made me install Alphacentauri again \o/

AC was one of my favorite RTS untill I played Warhammer 40k:Dawn of War. AC was fun even tho It made my comp crash more than usuall. I should try it out on my new comp....

The interesting thing about Alpha Centauri is that it's NOT AN RTS, you dumb fucking shit. RTS stands for REAL TIME STRATEGY. AC is a TBS, or TURN BASED STRATEGY. And you are a HGM, or HUGE GODDAMN MORON.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

I am relieved that AC was deposed. The taint may yet heal. :drunk:

And there's yet another big difference between DoW and AC, my stupid Nick-named friend (Nick-named, thee hee, get it? i'm a killer!)... The latter actually has some replay value.

From what is known, it would be fair to assume that for Nick, even noughts and crosses/tic tac toe would be a challenge of epic proportions.

Oho.

ditto :chainsaw:

Aside form that, I'm also disappointed by the idea of replacing the ATT/DEF statistics with just single 'power'.

I spent many nights and days playing Civilisation, then Civ2, then Civ3 and enjoyed all of them. Despite being simpler than its sequel, the original game was excellenet entartainment, highly addictive. I was not let down by the rest of the series, however I've never played AC :( Koki, might you have a spare 'backup copy'?

I think we should wait for Civ4 to be released to say it sucks. Like PiP said, the old games were much simpler, but as excellent.

From what I've heard about Civ IV, and having played I,II,III and SMACX I'm pretty concerned... It doesn't sound like a Sid Meier's game to me at all.

Just have to wait and see?

Except I'm having problems with the WorldBuilder, changing the civs in a map from the vanilla.

There was this TOTAL UBER REALISM mod thing going on, that fixed alot of things that bugged me about Civ4 ( exception would ofcourse be how the globe's northern and southern poles are unaccessable black fields that look stupid ) and, I'm speaking for myself here, but this free mod did things the expansion didn't come close to doing.

AC was really the only civ game I played for a decent length of time... oh, and Colonization (why no sequel?). The other games in the series I enjoyed for 2/3 of one game before getting bored with it.
