Don't put too many items in the elevator tho. They have a tendency to fall into nothingness...

And although the Assault rifle is one of the best guns in the game, it's easier to find shotguns, which has an equal amount of kick-ass if you plan your attack (which basically means abuse the crap out of the level and snipe).

But really, you should just waste your nanites and beat the crap out of things with your wrench. Totally beats buying expensive ammo.

And on the subject of skills, don't even pick modify. Repair is somewhat good, but it really matters on your playstyle and how much time you're willing to spend finding items. Don't even think about getting heavy weapons, they're huge and it's a b*tch to find ammo for them, and you'll have more luck with a shotgun than a fusion cannon any day. Etc etc just get that damn hack skill up as fast as you can.

SS2 is as close to an RPG/FPS hybrid as we've gotten so far.

Deus Ex is closer.
Well, System Shock 2's RPG system appears to resemble the GURPS points system, so it's a linear RPG, as opposed to the more open-ended Deus Ex.

However, the Deus Ex system was flawed and unbalanced - gun shooting would be annoying at best at the start and far too easy at the end, depending on your skill point distribution. While I wouldn't say that it "sucked", like Subhuman, I will say that it was rather average. The storyline was alright, but not a Fallout. I'm not a believer in conspiracy theories, and while it was interesting and fun to see the story, it didn't hook me and reel me in like Fallout's did, for example.

Actually, scratch that - it sucked. Hyped-up games that don't live up to their hype suck.
"When conversing about oligarchy, you must consider this point: Many children are taught from an early age that monarchies are primarily benevolent, and are given very little to discourage this opinion until at least adolesence. Even more prevalent are stories about the supposed benevolence of heirs to the throne, symbolising a cycle which they are taught is good."

That's why you should max out low-tech. One hit KOs with a baton. Makes the game so much easier, if a bit longer.

But the game does force you to make some decisions without thinking tho. The one thing I hated about DX was the level design and that it forced you to look for healthpacks if you planned on surviving anything half assed you would do, which you probably would have to because you wasted lockpicks/multitools/etc. Basically it spoiled it's saving grace. Plus, tranq darts were horribly implemented. The standard darts had more of a chance taking them out silently, even tho they experience mild pain while their brain tissue is sliced and diced by the arrow head.

Multi-player's fun tho.

I was extremely let down by Deus Ex when it came out. Warren Spector repeatedly described a totally free roaming world where you can go anywhere at any time and there is no "levels" to speak of. It was just your character JC Denton dropped in this futuristic living breathing city.

The reality was Deus Ex turned out to be as linear as any other first person shooter, but filled with more secret areas. The ending was a total cop-out. I did fall in love with the atmosphere and wacky characters. Plus the music was awesome. It wasn't for a couple years I came to really like all of Deus Ex and replay it once a year. Why? Because despite it's problems no other first person shooter has come close to its level of detail and style.
I guess it's the same reason I still play Fallout 1+2. They have plenty of glitches and bad design decisions, but I can look past them since they are still unmatched even today.

1.I have a 28.8 connection on my laptop.
2.I found www.tucows.com, getting Winzip there once my laptop completes its ritual of punishing me for leaving it off for five months, I will then unpack Winrar V.1 and then get to work unzipping the files.

Tried to DL System Shock 2 the other day and it crashed constantly to i deleted it. Ive played Deus Ex 1 and 2 and it reminds me of Shadowrun Tabletop RPG, another game that kicks ass. Deus Ex 1 and 2 were unfortunetley linear, but the games were good nontheless.

Any other games you guys would suggest?
