temple o' elemental evil
Should I play it?
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

It has a lot of DnD rules and things in which you can develop your character, so if you don't know the rules that well prepare to read a lot of manual and information in the character screen. The combat is good but everything else is pretty lackluster, don't expect to have a lot of fun quests or dialogs. It's a lot of dungeon crawling. It wasn't that great for me because I don't really like the DnD ruleset and I thought the game was hard
Make sure to get the official patches and probably those unofficial fan made patches to go with it.

I know DnD pretty well, and I've even played the "Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil" module, which was awesome & why I want to play the original on PC now.
What fine tunage do I need? Some sorta Co8 mod?

I bought it last month and played nonstop until I beat it a week later. Go to the CO8 forum, download the shit and follow their instructions.
My major gripe with the game is how short it is. It's about the length of a single chapter in Baldur's Gate. ToEE is designed for people who played pen and paper D&D as a kid. Bare bones story, cliched setting, and all about combat. That said, I enjoyed it through the final battle. Combat is perfect, magic is the best I've seen, crafting items is cool, there's lots of different monsters, and the temple design is awesome. $9 for a week of good fun is more than worth it.
Darksun: Shattered Lands is still the reigning champ.

Actually, the combat is quite orthodox to tabletop DnD in PS:T, provided that you're doing it turn-based. It's just that DnD combat sucks (though I guess the 3rd edition rules used in TOEE/NWN/whatever would make it more tolerable).

It wasn't for me but I just might be stupid. I think I may have just made really bad characters because there was a ton of options and lots of places to make stupid choices.Mad Max RW wrote:Yeah, except they flushed D&D gameplay down the toilet with realtime combat. Ignore the people who say ToEE has a steep learning curve or whatever. It's easy as hell to jump into.

The DnD system is why I didn't get into Baldur's Gate and such games. I never understood the damage modifiers on the weapons, then shit like "Bastard swords" etc, they had too many of those. I never knew which ones to specialize in, or what it really meant for me.
Too much information in one go, and I lost my interest for the games. I'm still playing Planescape because of the awesome storyline, though.
