Todd Howard Mentions Fallout 3

Post by King of Creation »

[ Game -> Update ] - More info on Person: Todd Howard | More info on Company: Bethesda Softworks | More info on Game: Fallout 3

Since there's not going to be any real news on Fallout 3 for a while, we have to settle for anything that even mentions the game. This time, Todd Howard did the mentioning. He briefly talked about Fallout 3 in a podcast interview with Escape Radio. Here's the transcript of the only important part of the interview, as posted at NMA:

Host: Since you mentioned it first I don't feel bad about asking, but... what can you tell us about Fallout 3?

Todd: Uh... it's currently... full steam ahead and... um... so... that
would be something that, yeah, we're definitely not ready to talk about
yet... um... in terms of we're still... trying things out... but it's,
it's going... it's going very well... there's a lot of... good stuff...
in the game right now... well, at least we, we think it's good stuff
right now... we... that may change before we... announce... really
announce the game and show it off, so...

Host: You told... you told GameSpot about two years ago you guys were
in the messing with stuff phase... What... what would you characterize
it now, what phase would you consider the project to be at now?

Todd: Um... messing with different stuff... heh...

Host: (laughter) Awesome.

Todd: Um... yeah, we have very long... what we... what we describe as
preproduction... Y'know, for us it's very, very, very long... At the
end of preproduction for us we have... something you can play... this
is... this is, this is what the game... this is a little (?) part of
the game... and, uh... yeah, for better or worse we spend a while doing
that.

For those who are interested in listening to the podcast, the part about Fallout 3 starts at around 21 minutes. You can listen to it here.

I have been able to talk more intelligently while being shit-faced falling down drunk. Which leads me to believe he was distracted. Maybe he was watching some gay-pRon or his boy-friend/girl-friend was going down on him? Or maybe he's just a crack-head? Only he really knows.

edit: That was mean post, forgive me. I am usually not so... mean.

It's an audio interview, if someone transcribes it literally word for word it's not going to look good on paper. Really complaining about all the 'ums' and 'ahs' is kind of lame.

Were one to ignore the 'ums' and 'ahs', just for a moment, the holes would not vanish with them. Only lessen. The 'man' is a tool. :drunk:

Well I haven't listened to the interview. But I do know if one were to transcribe exactly what anyone said over the course of 5 minutes, it would be nearly illegible. The human mind just edits out all the stuttering, hesitating, unfinished sentances, and so on, to make it make sense.

To speak is to meander like a particularly addled autist* ? Universal incomprehensibility ? Open mouth, unleash brain blisteringly banal babble ? Every one of Them ?

Given and taken of context, my dear Mr. Teatime, the 'man' is a tool. A defining symptom of tooliganism (which is, in itself, an all too pedestrian an ailment) is rarely communicating anything of worth and/or meaning. He, the tool, is a rare, extravagantly progressed case. In light of this, in light of the saturation that surrounds us all, I'd be surprised if I were concerned by your apparent obliviousness to this numbing trend. Absence of identity. Hypothetically, he, the tool, could rob the Queen of her English, employ any relevant contingency or coping mechanism imaginable, and still have all of fuck to contribute. It defies logic, probability, reason and belief. Oh, wait.

Some are, alas, just like that.

Woo and Yay that they don't all have the opportunity to puke mightily upon concept, value and dream. :drunk:

*You are Autist given Umbrage ? OH MY.

You are completely incorrect, sir. While it is true that a lot of people do stutter and uhm a lot, people that are expected to professionally appear on broadcasts or tv CAN NOT. When I see the CEO of Microsoft being interviewed, he does not "y'know" or "uhm", he's a professional.

I can half-forgive Todd doing this because it's not really his job. The fact that the press chief Pete is even worse just makes me laugh, though. Good show of professionalism, people.

It's an internet radio show about Star Trek or something, who gives a shit about 'ums' and 'ahs'? The broadcaster guys are just as laid back-sounding as Todd Howard is in the interview, so it's rather ridiculous to mention the fact that he's a very lazy sounding man.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

It's Escapist, dude, and their approach has nothing to do with how Todd would be expected to reply.

Again, it's kind of a part of his job. It's not my job to make excuses for him nor correct his mistakes.

Amazing stuff.

Y'know, I wonder if they'll even release one screenshot before it's in stores.

Nothing like a slow-moving localized apocalypse to really make you think about proper data backup procedures.
