Deathclaws don't have thumbs. Your options would be limited to grunt and kill.

The only real way I could see a deathclaw PC working - or any other crazy idea like a sporeplant or whatever - would be within a clever game-within-a-game thing. So you find a holodisk in the game that when used with a terminal loads up a game that looks suspiciously like Fallout. Maybe even using the old 2d sprite graphics of the original. And you can play a mini-fallout game as a deathclaw.
Hey, they could even make it really dumb and take the piss out of FOBOS. So you play as a rampaging deathclaw in a diablo clone.

4. Roar!

You can't even give a yes or no answer to a question, not to mention most npc's will run at the sight of the Deathclaw (or shoot it with their guns)
