No More Mel for Mad Max 4
<strong>[ Film & TV -> Update ]</strong>
<p>Director George Miller still plans on making <em>Mad Max 4</em>, but without Mel Gibson.</p><p> </p><blockquote><em>"We
were about three months off shooting [Mad Max 4] when the Iraqi war
came and the American dollar collapsed against the Australian dollar so
we lost our budget. Also, we couldn't get the container ships out
because of security and stuff," says Miller, confirming that Mel Gibson was attached to reprise his role at that stage.</em>
<em>
</em>
<em>
He'll next shoot a "small film," but says then he'll most likely return to "Max."</em>
<em>
</em>
<em>
"Though I think there will be another Mad Max; the time has gone where
Mel can be in it. I think the last opportunity was about four years ago
and you know the character's lean and hungry. He was twenty one when he
first played Mad Max and he's now in his fifties. Also I think he's
much more interested in what's happening behind camera than in front.
It needs a lean and hungry actor and he's not into acting so much anymore and I think he just loves producing, writing and
directing. But I think if fates allow there will be another Mad Max
though it is certainly two films away for me, but the time's gone when Mel can run around the wasteland anymore."</em></blockquote><p> </p><blockquote><em /></blockquote><p><em><em>Check out the article <a target="_self" href="http://comingsoon.net/news/movienews.ph ... 8">here</a>. </em></em></p><p><em> </em></p><p>Spotted @ <a href="http://www.comingsoon.net">Comingsoon.net</a></p>

A Mad Max without Mel Gibson? Why waste anybody's time? Personally my favorite Max movie is The Roadwarrior. The first one was incredible but the second one is definitely my favorite. Beyond Thunderdome just blows.

I say bullshit. Though Mad Max was hardly the kind of character to grow old, the first and only Mad Max character in the movie by name/title should be Mel. So, even if the 'main' character protagonist-type of the movie is someone else, Max the character should always be Mel. That's my stupid opinion, anyways.
Re: No More Mel for Mad Max 4
Probably a good call; Mel's image isn't that badass anymore. Perhaps they should replace the main character with Mad Max's son or daughter or whatever.George Miller wrote:"It needs a lean and hungry actor... "

I was actually following the production of the movie about three years ago. I think the closest they got to getting it made was around the same time. They actually had Mel interested in returning and there were alot of rumors involving Heath Ledger as Max's son or sidekick or something.
They had a script done too. It involved some kind of virus and Max had to escort a caravan of uninfected people across the deserts of future-Australia. But Mel decided to do Passion of The Christ instead and the whole thing really slowed down. I eventually gave up hope of a Mad Max 4. The 3rd one sucked balls anyway.
I doubt if there will ever be a fourth.
For the record, I also blame the Jews. For alot of things.

I s'pose they asked Mel to take the part, but he was drunk at the moment and asked "ama gonna kick some jew ass in dat flick or NOT?! eh? *hickup*" so they had to turn him down

I say that we simply nuke the last continent for real and see who comes up on top, THAT will be the next Mad Max! Who knows how many directors the shoot will go through before they find one that the psychopath likes but the movie would be AMAZING hehe.
