I would imagine that that is probably not EC canon either.
It was probably just a Matrix ripoff

debatable. while the art, backstory, and all that other is 'straight' from a 50s retrofuture (only gone to shit), i'd say the survivalist aspect of the game, the gritty feel of combat, etc. was much more influenced by the road warrior. mutants and most of the weapon choices aside, i see very little 50s EC influence here. and hey, that sorta leaves room for akimbo guns as a possibility.Rosh wrote:Fallout is very *little* Mad Max/Road Warrior.
Not generally, no. Good find, however, as that is also one of the few examples where dual-pistols were not shot alternatively in a Western, though it might have been to make the cover a bit more full of "action".
And where Fallout also used pugilism and other forms of Americana, it doesn't seem to befit the Americana styling by including an element made popular by wuxia movie directors.atoga wrote: debatable. while the art, backstory, and all that other is 'straight' from a 50s retrofuture (only gone to shit), i'd say the survivalist aspect of the game, the gritty feel of combat, etc. was much more influenced by the road warrior.
Much of their sci-fi and also their horror line-up (they tend to overlap) may be seen in the methods and stylings of Fallout. Much of EC was about morality, including having *gasp* a black astronaut, and more creativity about the horrors of mankind gone awry. Also note the comic loading screens (prices, too) and the art style used in much of the game.mutants and most of the weapon choices aside, i see very little 50s EC influence here.
Yes, and it also leaves room for trenchcoats, Japanese swords, and a whole bunch of other quite irrelevant crap compared to something that really doesn't fit except for munchkinish reasons. Where, except for recent pop culture, Westerns (and even then they fire alternatively), and John Woo flicks, have guns akimbo so they should be included into Fallout because someone says they should be, because it makes their jollies tingle? Hm? Please, give some examples of why it should be included when other styles point that it should not, and then maybe I can accept there to be a reason to really entertain the concept. I know why Bethesda would include it, and that's because it's COOOOOOL!and hey, that sorta leaves room for akimbo guns as a possibility.
No...just recently I've had to re-remind people about the styles and general setting design from where Fallout gets its roots. If you wanted to get into a 15-page disection of each element and where it is attributed from, then you're shit out of luck because I don't have that kind of time and the developers didn't tell me about everything*.you seem to be under the impression that fallout is taken pretty much directly from EC comics, when it's really much more subversive than that.
Rosh wrote:Fallout is very *little* Mad Max/Road Warrior. There are some obvious influences of it readily available, such as the lost man in a lost world setting, the leather armor, and several other easter eggs, but otherwise it has a backstory and setting more to 50's EC comics than to Road Warrior.SuperH wrote: Then I would say something like "What about the obvious Road Warrior influence?" to point out that it might not be exclusively styled around 50's EC comics, and then Rosh would say "That is just a small stylistic influence and has nothing to do with the setting."
Except for the silly tribal shit.
Except that you're not firing them at once, they occupy different weapon slots. Akimbo implies same-time firing. Also ignoring silly things like http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/album_ ... ic_id=1289
So all this would be the "Great Akimbo Minigun Debate of '06."SuperH wrote:I never liked Rosh since the great akimbo minigun debate of '02.

Well, that settles that:Redeye wrote:If the "50's" continued on to 2077, some permutations might have arisen.
Just saw this thread, and to answer your question Frissy, yes Rosh has been wrong, And I called him on it.frissy wrote:I'm just curious that has there EVER been anything that Rosh would have been wrong on? Or proven wrong?

In one thread he made the extremely funny claim that logistics has no place in modern war. Man myself and my friends in the Corps got one hell of a belly laugh out of that.

I think the debate would be a lot easier if Akimbo wasn't related to the kind of blunt, stupid-but-campy action of the Matrix or Tomb Raider. I'm not saying it's exclusive to that, but the fact that the major executers of akimbo right now are campy and simple things kind of means it might hurt the Fallout setting.frissy wrote:I really don't see how Akimbo would "destroy" anything, just add. Perhaps it's not he most setting correct (which is still under debate), but it still doesn't take anything away from it.
