Haris, albeit I understand where you're coming from, you're getting some essentials wrong. Just because you enjoy MMOs, doesn't mean that everyone else does.
I.e. I play a lot of Diablo II. Why am I still on that old game, while most of my D2 mates have switched to WoW? Namely because what I hate in WoW is this dependancy on your party. It doesn't matter how awesome your character is, you still won't be able to kill the strongest enemy in the game. The downgrading of individual play (which I'm a fan of) is what makes WoW unattractive to me.
So no, MMOs are not the way out. If Diablo III will ever come out, I probably won't play it, if it's a MMO.
Simple concept of likes and dislikes. Try to argue with reason and from a neutral standpoint.

Still fallout fans are not so much against mmorpgs as some poeple claim they are.

It doesn't matter. Fallout was never meant to be a MMO. Should stick to the general principle.Haris wrote:Still fallout fans are not so much against mmorpgs as some poeple claim they are.

What the hell? Didn't we just close this line of reasoning a few posts back? Holy hells, not only are you stupid, but you've got the memory span of an average tabby.Haris wrote:Still fallout fans are not so much against mmorpgs as some poeple claim they are.

Amen! Someone who has a brain. It's starting to sound like There isn't anything Fallouty that anything other than Fallout 1(& 2 depending on the person). Even the Fallout setting is wrong/bad/etc. , unless it's used in Fallout 1 (& 2, depending on the person). Its a site dedicated to a certain kind of game.. if it has multiplayer or not hardly matters.

Fallout 1 and 2 *ARE* the relevant Fallout games that DaC and NMA are dedicated to. Don't go all Inclusivity Theorem on me now.

@Kharn, I'm not, but that's bloody well the thing you are implying at the moment.
As much as a fight there is about the setting, I was hoping that fan sites like these (HC) are more about the setting/idea. Fallout MMO doesn't equal the setting...well neither does Fallout 1 or 2, Tactics or Fopos
Fallout setting is the fallout setting ( I can hardly think ANYONE could disagree with me on that? ).

sure, but that was never really the issue (though what exactly constitutes setting is up for interpretation, so it can of course be bastardized). you could, of course, set a shooter or an rts in the fallout universe and have it be faithful to the setting, but it would fuck up da gameplay aspects. hell, you could even set an MMOG in the fallout universe and have it be faithful to the setting if there were only 20 people playing it.
the issue is implementation.
the issue is implementation.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.
That can be fixed, in wow there is not 7,5 million players on one server, they have over 100 servers. Making it about 10-20k created characters per server. Wich pretty much cuts it down to about 1000-2000 players online at all times per server. That divided in to 2 faction horde and aliance who cant understand eachother when typing stuff makes wow look really unpopulated.hell, you could even set an MMOG in the fallout universe and have it be faithful to the setting if there were only 20 people playing it.
yes, but there is still the issue of implementation; as i said, remaining true to the setting is not the issue at hand; fans don't want a fallout MMOG for the same reason they don't want a fallout shooter, for the reasons already discussed to death in the thread.
what i said has nothing to do with fixing the number of players per server.

I am just gonna quote one of fallout fans from gamespot here.fans don't want a fallout MMOG for the same reason they don't want a fallout shooter,
Just saying that all fallout fans are not against this, no mather how much many of you on dac and nma want to belive that.I'm a huge mmorpg fan, started playing muds (their text based predecessors) in the early nineties, and havn't stopped since. I would give my proverbial left arm for a Fallout mmorpg. It tops my wish list.

He says quite clearly that he's a MMORPG, not a Fallout fan.Haris wrote:I am just gonna quote one of fallout fans from gamespot here.

I don't care how it's implemented, I want don't want a Fallout MMO.johnnygothisgun wrote:word brotheratoga wrote:the issue is implementation.

you misunderstand dear frater, i dont want an mmorpg either. i was just pointing out that good implementation of the setting and ideas is the difference between a good game and a bad one.
for example, i think we can safely assume that bethesda is going to make fallout 3 a first person real time combat deal, but if they stay true to the feel and facts of the setting, and give us a good system that works and feels like its not fake and full of gimmicks and compromises, then it could still be a good game. its der implementation that counts.
as for haris, yeah hes an idiot. mmorpgs as i know them are rpgs just as much as a counter-strike server with persistent stat tracking is an rpg. yeah laffo theres character development, so what? that doesnt make it an rpg. those sorts of games are either hit or miss, and if you have half a brain theyre generally miss. find a good community, then it may be fun. but its still not immersive in the sense that a good rpg is.

ah, i was being more broad, not just about the fallout mmorpg. that will suck, im sure, like all mmorpgs.Subhuman wrote:Y'all are saying the same things over and over with different words. If implemented properly, a Fallout MMORPG might not entirely suck. And Interplay's press writer needs to be fired. Are we all in agreement?
