If you liked Dawn of War and Winter Assault it's awesome.

The whole "open campaign" was cool the first time but I bored of it by my second try with a different race.

Yea but if you liked DoW AND WA there's something wrong with you.

Like, DoW at least tried to be original.

WA just castrated everything that was absolutely not needed for ye olde rock paper scissors RTS.

I always thought Winter Assault was hard and annoying. Dark Crusade was entertaining, but not enough to make me replay it with another race.

Buy Medieval 2 instead. Mark of Chaos is basically a dumbed down version of it with some fancy spells n chit and minus any real strategy.
