Are you sure they're classes and not character builds or backgrouds? Does it specifically say CLASS in your little character book, or is your tremendous retardation mincing terms?
If the game has classes, then why is it described in the wiki as a skill system?

Cause it is a skillsystem, that doesnt prevent it from having classes that basicly give you a set of skills you raise in double speed than other skills. Are you sure they're classes and not character builds or backgrouds? Nope says Archtype described as profesion that determines you start skills and special abilities, dissadvantages and your personality. If the game was set in some medival time it could have as well be called Classes.
And KULT was by far my favorite pnp rpg when i still played pnp rpgs, cause it wasnt set in future or in past time. It was played in the present time so you could relate to the char quite well. Best part of dungeon master expirience for that rpg was that you could creep the hell out of players.

"Classes" aren't something that have to be unique to a medieval setting, they're a general term that can be applied to any setting. If the game was set in some medival time it could have as well be called Classes.
"Arcehtype" is a synonymous term with character build. Because there are "archetypes" that you can choose in the game doesn't mean that it's necessarily impossible to create one's own character with the skill set. What you call "class" sounds suspiciously like the way backgrounds work in Arcanum, but then I guess you've been calling those classes, too.Nope says Archtype described as profesion that determines you start skills and special abilities, dissadvantages and your personality.

Because at that point you're just making shit up and violating the rules of the game. You can create a new character "Archetype" with a skill-based system, but you can't make a new class with a class-based system. That's because a skill-based system is like an erector's set of character traits which allow the player to create any kind of character he wants in accordance to the rules, whereas with class-based systems, the character types are dictated by the game designer, and the players aren't allowed to create a character that doesn't belong to a certain "class" and is thus limited by that class. And in class system pnp rpg what exactly prevents you from creating your own class?
Surely KULT has some sort of character creation guide?

If you mean guide on how to create your own archetype than no it doesnt. And it would basicly mean making stuff up if you made your own archetype and than picking skills for it.Surely KULT has some sort of character creation guide?
Still i dont know why i am arguind this cause i wasnt really saying that wow stile class system is what i want in fallout 3, i want class/backround/profesion/archetyp what ever you want to call build on special ruleset in fallout (and not lameass kind like those 3 chosable chars where at start of the game where you had no reason to pick that kind of char). I just think it would be fun if i could play something else except choseone in fallout 3 every playtrough.

So, uhm, you want class by *your* definition, which is equal to background/trait AND IS ALREADY IN SPECIAL, rather than class in the classic D&D sense, WHICH WAS THE TOPIC OF THIS THREAD. Did I get it right?
PS: the "I don't want to play the Chosen One" point has SHIT-ALL to do with classes. Did Baldur's Gate have classes? Yes. Did that mean I had ANY say in the character's background or descendancy? NO.
Class has nothing to do with character history.
I USE CAPS A LOT

Baldurs gate is bad example cause its class system badly implemented specially cause it ment nothing what you picked in the actual game world. So you cant really compare it to fallout stile rpg world.Kharn wrote:So, uhm, you want class by *your* definition, which is equal to background/trait AND IS ALREADY IN SPECIAL, rather than class in the classic D&D sense, WHICH WAS THE TOPIC OF THIS THREAD. If well implemented it would give even bigger feeling of pnp rpg freeroam. Wich was in my opinion strongest part of fallout 1&2.TelemachusSneezed wrote:I'm going to keep reposting this until I get an answer.TelemachusSneezed wrote:I haven't seen one argument about what classes and races would add to Fallout gameplay. First of all, thank you for finally answering the most important question in this entire discussion.Haris wrote:If well implemented it would give even bigger feeling of pnp rpg freeroam. Wich was in my opinion strongest part of fallout 1&2.
Second, how would implementing a class system give an "even bigger feeling of pnp rpg freeroam"?
Third, Fallout had so many more important qualities than "being like a pnp rpg," that this entire discussion is the silliest thing I've taken part in. Time to nip off and shoot myself.
Death to quotes.

That is the swedish rpg that one might think is just plain copy of dungeons and dragons but its not. It has similar skill system as special, only it includes all the magic schools and every weapon as a separate skill wich gives you ability to pick at least 300 different skills. And it has classes, they are actually called profesions, but you pretty much pick mage, warrior and all that. If you have all books that can be bought for this pnp rpg it comes up to something like 100 classes and 50 races all having completly different restrictions and abilities and you play completly different game according to what you picked.
Now i am aware that this cant be achived in a pc game, well it can but we know pc game makers would never go trough the trouble.

I said that classes work on limiting your options by making you play in a certain way and are inherantly restrictive, what Sniper described were NOT classes and weren't even remotely like classes. They're backgrounds. Get it straight and through your thick assed skull.Just cause a certain games like wow for example had a class play out exactly the same every time that doesnt mean its how classes allways work in every game.
Also, while you're at it, give me some examples proving me wrong.
Says the guy who apperently spends every day of his life playing WoW and promoting MMO's as if they're godsend.Try playing more rpgs except oblivion and f2 before you get in to explaining how classes work assholes.
I love it when you prove my points Haris. Thank you, good night. In your example as a "Warrior" you're restricted to those 3 skill trees. You're not allowed to choose what skills you want from the game even if you meet the requirements because they "don't fit your class." Inherantly restrictive, stupid, and adds NOTHING to the game. Sorry Haris, you fail. I told you not to reply.Does not, even in wow you had 3 skill treas for each class and you could focus on just one skilltree or mix and match them as you wanted. For example warrior could be protection warrior, furry warrior or arms warrior depending on how you chose to develop you char.

Ohh ohhh ohhh, I WANT TO BE A FURY WARRIOR!.
Seriously, how the fuck is that open.
So you get to be a (if I Understand your garbled english right) defensive warrior, offensive warrior, or a furry goatfucking warrior.
Seriously, how is that open ?
What if I get tired of being a warrior halfway thru the game, a midlife crisis for my characther, and wish to change profesions ?
Can we asshat Haris fur just being a fucktard people ?
