There is an edit button, Devil_Starr666. Just to point it out.
And Ghost in the Shell movie character design was much better than the series, but the series has much better writing, I will agree.

Heh, I saw a few parts of it in a cartoon block for kids on TV. Interesting, that far. Then my interest made me read scans of the manga. Boring. Ultracomplicated plot mixed with jap humor. Enough bullets and robots, though.
As for Appleseed... I quit reading it near the middle part. Even more brain crushing plot, and, my tentacled beard, furry bioroids. Not enough bullets and robots, surprisingly.

i tend to agree on the Appleseed part, but the part you saw on TV was most likely on Adult Swim, on Cartoon Network, called The Stand Alone Complex. But hardly for kids, hence the sporadic violence and language that it displays, just a common japanese Anime.Cthulhu wrote:Heh, I saw a few parts of it in a cartoon block for kids on TV. I liked the movie when I saw it eons ago, although I'm not sure why. The animation was good, the story lost me around the final third but was still interesting, and I liked all the violence. I'm not much of an anime connoisseur, though, so maybe there's better stuff out there.
Is Akira still worth seeing? I get the feeling it may be overrated.

It is overrated by the super-geek-omg-fanboiz, but, nonetheless, go at it with a neutral attitude, close your eyes and ears at a few key points, and it is a relatively good flick.

Miyazaki is a genius, and Spirited Away is by far his best movie, although all of them are good. Porco Rosso is also sweet.
There are some of his movies that are a bit too childish, but there's always something interesting about them, they're quite unique and always come out of the usual anime movies.
And yes, Akira needs to be seen.

I liked Mononoke MUCH more than Spirited Away. Spirited Away was good, but it just didn't grab me. And Howls Moving Castle bored me. Good, I guess, from a story point of view... sort of. But boring. The animation in Spirited Away and Howl's didn't grab me either.

Mononoke was much better than I was expecting. I rented it to watch with my niece (Scooby Doo cartoons were getting old), but never let her watch it because that worm covered monster at the beginning would have freaked her out. She watched and enjoyed Laputa: Castle in the Sky, though.
