Fallout 3 in May issue of PC Zone UK
The real problem with bethseda is that they lack, apart from any real talent, creativity and visions. They just do what they've always done. It this mentality was dominant in society in general, we wouldn't even have computers to play on.
If the movie industry was as visionless as the gaming industry, we would never have seen flicks like 2001, magnolia, dogville, citizen kane, a clockwork orange etcetcetc...
Even tho' it is decreasing, there are still some talent in the movies, while in gaming there isn't much.
Somehow, to bethsoft, the idea of doing something new is to improve the graphics.
Well slap my ass and call me nancy, no big suprise then that the quality of games haas decreased. Tho' this mostly applies to console & cross platform releases.
Computer only, or primarily, tend to keep an acceptable level, even though these too are a tad less visionary than chit used to be?
Why has it come to this?
Well games, unlike Books, Moves and Music, has no established sings of quality. And, the revievers are, in general, bloody retards. I've met a few, and they tend to be on the mental level of a high-school student, giggling and shit.
So there just isn't any pressure on the devs.
The sad part is that the devs aren't much better. Sure, they are usually rather smart and know how to code. But in terms of creativity and the artsy part, they fucking retards.
The people working on creative chit in games are usually the ones who are too bad to work with movie scripts, too poor (skillwise) to become writers, and fucking retards.
And bethseda is no exception. This, if anything, will be the reason why we dislike FO3, not that we've already decided we won't. I'm rather sure most of us will give it a chance, but the very moment we see that it isn't fallout or that it is as retarded as most ob Bethsucks titles we will hate it.
Why?
Because we tried, oh gosh we tried so hard, to help bethesda to do the right thing. But they didn't listen.
It all comes down to one simple thing:
Can bethesda be arsed to make a good game?

Oh come on now guys. Wait till Pete starts giving us some real meat on FO3. Anytime now he's going to lay out objective specifics (those of you who remember the Oblivion pre-hype may recognize some of these):
Epic!
Visceral!
Next-Gen! (my favorite)
Big Name Voice Actors! (for immershun)
Mini-games! Yay!
Realistic erosion! WOW!
An over-hyped AI that needs to be crippled to accomodate consoles! NPC rake concrete!
Fully voiced dialogue! (reading is teh hard)
Quest Compass (the GPS of the 50s)
I know, I know I'm shortchanging Bethesda, so I'll be the first to admit I'm just scratching the surface. But once you get past the superficial stuff, what else will there be?

Before Oblivion, I would have thought "Sure!".
Now? I not only doubt it, I expect them to fail miserably in creating a creative, fun, immersive game.
They will fail in the setting, the mood, the combat and most likely, the dialogue as well..
The only thing I expect them to get at least halfright, is the canon. I think they'll give it a good whack in that sector.
As for the rest?
Oblivion with guns, has never rung more true.
Testicular Pugilist
About the only thing that MIGHT be intersting is their tendency for a shitload of mostly worthless books for immersion.
The only way I see those not sucking would be if they were done in 3 forms.
1 - digital, holodiscs and computer date DLd to the pipboy.
2- books on shelves in abandond buildings
3- occasional diaries or journals and military log books from before during and after the war
That said, I dont htink they would do those 3 well, but I could be wrong (doubt it tho)

The pop culture references and morbid humour contribute a great deal to the Fallout atmosphere, and I hope Bethesda includes at least a little of both in their game. This wasn't just a Fallout 2 phenomena (hello, TARDIS in F1?). Even The Road Warrior had a little humour to relieve the inherent and neverending brutality of the setting.
I'm hoping for the best from not really expecting much good from Bethesda at this point...need more information really.
