hm lots of rumours right now. A lot of people seem to think SC2 will be an mmo, since they're hiring developers.
I think it's shooting themselves in the foot, to start up a new MMO already.
Who are they going to take away customers from? Themselves?
The non-existant sci-fi mmo market?

That seems perfectly logical to me. They already have the competence to make a successful MMO brand and would certainly like to diversify their MMO portfolio. Developing both MMOs and single-player games consumes a lot of resources and man power so ditching either division sounds like a wise thing to do. I'm guessing we wont see any more of them less profitable singleplayer RTS games by Blizzard. Another option would be if EA or some other big game corp buys their RTS division.Smiley wrote:hm lots of rumours right now. People who think this way are clearly mentally-impaired. It seems so hard for them to understand that Blizzard is not a small company like Troika or even Bethesda, and they dont need to focus all their means of production on ONE project. That's first.Smiley wrote:A lot of people seem to think SC2 will be an mmo, since they're hiring developers.
Second, before that, they were hiring experienced/professional *RTS*players for positions in the testing and balancing departments. I mean, how can anyone question the genre of SC2 after that?

That's what they want YOU to believe. They already have two distinct divisions focusing on the single player market and MMOs. Financially, it would make sense to focus on the more profitable branch and ditch the other. Knowing Blizzard/Vivendi they'll make the right financial decision.Atrokkus wrote:Read up the news, it was a fuckup on Vivendi's side. Blizzard/vivendi denied that later on, saying that it was a mixup on the presentation team's side.jetbaby wrote:Didn't Vivendi make an announcement awhile back about how all future Blizzard games will be MMO?

Mostly the Blizzard North folks who are responsible for Diablo only.Did the guys behind SC leave Blizzard or just the ones behind WC and Diablo?
HOwever, if you look at ArenaNet developer profiles you will stumble upon several names from the core department (like that one guy who conceptualized battle.net), but not a lot. Most of the strategy guys stayed in Blizzard, working on Warcraft3 and the rest.
