About FEV, the burrow and what else Cain revealed to me...

Post by Tank »

Guys, I got a mail from Tim Cain, replying to my questions on FEV and The Burrow. I'll just post it here for any further discussions. It also turns out that I was wrong about ghouls, Harold at least... Oh well, no point in fighting against something the God himself said... Well, anyways, here it is!

Hello Peter,

I apologize for the delay. June was a tough milestone month for my current project, so I put this email on the backburner until I had time to answer it fully.

To answer your first set of questions on FEV, yes, the virus is immune to radiation-induced mutation. As for contact, any contact at all will infect the subject, but the amount of contact determines the result. For example, I imagine Harold had some contact with the virus, but he was not fully immersed in it, so he became a different mutant than the Master's subjects. Full immersion, of course, is the preferred method of infection, as it provides the virus a large surface area for infection.

As for the Burrow, this location was written by an early designer associated with the project. While it was well written, I felt that its content was not appropriate to our Fallout universe, mainly based on its style and feel in the game and not on its artistic merit. So I did not approve its addition to the game, and that Glow holodisk is all that remains of any reference to that area.

Tim.

It's funny how Harold seems to be the most controversial character on these forums because of the FEV/radiation mix up. I mean, there are more bizarre characters than him. I hope this settles the conversation about Harold though.

Well, I'm still notquite in agreement, but since Tim says it's so, then it is so! And the rest of the ghouls are all radiation-mutated critters, I aint budging there!
