Announcing a new FOT Campaign: Project Dark Sky

Post by MagnumOpus »

I will go into detail about the storyline, and main characters in Project Dark Sky in a few days.

For now I'm posting two links to videos.

The first video is a tour of the first floor of the military base in the center of the starting city Anexia.

The second video is just a bare bones concept of what the city surrounding the military base will look like. There isn't very much to the map, and its a bit messy.

I am going to make Project Dark Sky an RPG in the tradition of Fallout 2 to the best of my ability.

I'll be using the recently developed multiple choice speech tree system to promote complex npc interaction.

I'll go into more detail tomorrow or the day after. For now here are the links to the vids.

Looks promising so far. I like the level design.

It's nice to see a mod with something else than just combat. The dialogue tree is good news. Good luck with the project. Are you working on it by yourself?

thanks :)

Project Dark Sky will be mostly plot, and quest driven. There will be a main path, maybe two.

I am doing away with the mission based system for the most part, don't worry though there will be plenty of bloody combat for our more bloodthirsty wasteland dwellers.

Currently I am only working with my Fiance. She takes dictation from me, and helps keep my notes organized. She also edits my website when she has the time.

I hope to assemble a team in the future. I will be needing a lot of help as I have big plans for this project. I will be looking to recruit people to help with the campaign once I have Project Darksky organized into sevral chapters.

I will need people who are adept in sprite making, people who can manipulate graphics, people willing to complete assignments such as map building, and or bulk entity editing, and people to conceptualize with.

Here is a basic description of what Project Dark Sky is all about.

Synopsis

Fallout Tactics: Project Dark Sky

Project Dark Sky takes place in post nuclear america a hundred or so years after Wasteland, and the Fallout series. The inhabitants of the wasteland have begun to rebuild society. Though most areas have introduced technology into their societys, the vast expanses of wasteland between these societys prevent any form of networking between populated areas. The inhabitants of the wasteland isolate themselves in the sanctuary of their cities, and fear the desolation of the outside world.

The region is divided into sevral nations, and societies, most of which are fighting for dominion over the land.

1. The first nation is under the control of a remnant of the old Brotherhood of Steel. Their society is descended from a band of genetic-purist-militants. They were banished from the origional Brotherhood of steel after a failed attempt at a coup within the Brotherhood. They now rule their territory with an iron fist. Their ultimate goal is to clense the wasteland of any living inhabitant who is not a pure human.

2. The Zah' Roth is a colony of fierce beasts with a singular intelligence. They are driven by a telepathic overmind. Their society is similar to that of a beehive, or an ant colony, except that none of the creatures posses any sort of intellegence or personality of their own. It is argueable that they are all seprate parts of the same organism.

3. After the Calculator was destroyed, and the radio frequentcy it was using to control it's death machines ceased, The Calculator's robot army was left to fend for itself with no prime directives. The remaining machines that werent destroyed by Brotherhood forces, wandered off into the wasteland aimlessly. Some malfunctioned, and shut down. Others attempted to mimic their innitial directives by exterminating random targets, but ultimately met their demise. Those that survived began to gather together in clusters. Clusters combined with other clusters, and eventually the mechanical mass became a robotic socialist society.

They call themselves 00110010. Very little is known about their society due to their refusal to facilitate communications. They furiously defend their boarders. No one comes in. No one goes out.

4. The kingdom of tull is ruled by super mutants. King Tull believes that the wasteland is his birth rite. He aspires to conquer the entire wastland, and enslave those he doesn't annihialate. King Tull is fearless, ruthless, and unforgiving.

5. The united collective is descended from the desert rangers of the late 21st century. They are governed by a council of 30. The council is composed of high ranking federal and military personal. The council uses a voting system for decision making. The people governed by this council have no say in the decision making process.

The United Collective is inhabited by every race known to live in the wasteland, including robots who did not join with 00110010. Though the United Collective cannot be considered a free society, citizens living under its rule are protected by their government, and live in relative harmony compared to other nations.

Anexia

Our story begins in the city of Anexia, Capitol of The United Collective. Built atop a toxic, radioactive swamp, Anexia was origionally founded by war vetrans who wished to live out the rest of their lives in peace. Anexia's gates welcomed anyone who desired to live a safe peaceful existance.

When the government discovered the existance of anexia, a military compound was build right in the center of the city, and military personel were stationed there. The United Collective requires any medium to large city to have a military presence, because without defenses present, the city in question would be vunerable to siege by another nation.

The citizens of Anexia were quite displeased with the military takeover of anexia, but were powerless to stop it. The citizens, and the military do however manage to co-exist without hostilities.

The main character in our story is Dr. Floyd Grant. He was found wandering the desert as a child, and was raised by the soldier who found him who is now a general on the high council. As he grew older, Floyd gained aptitudes for many things at an alarming rate.

Though he is highly skilled in the use of firearms, hand to hand combat, and melee weapons, his primary focus, and lifes ambition is being a doctor. He is very charasmatic, and his intelegence is unsurpassed. He would make a great leader, but he has no interest in government and military affairs.

When Floyd turned 25 he completely stopped aging. This baffled scientists, and doctors alike. Some believe that he has mutated somehow. Others believe that he was geneticly engineered. Because his true origin is unknown they can only speculate.

Dr. Grant may be superhuman in some aspects, but his abilities don't help with his highly unstable emotional state. Floyd never learned to objectify his patients, thus he feels responsable for every one he loses no matter how bleak the circumstances. He barely sleeps. He spends nearly all of his time in the E.R. tending the wounded.

His commanding officer Ernie Schwartz is also responsable for a great deal of Dr. Grant's stress because of his reckless disregard for the safety of the soldiers under his command. Floyd stays extreemly busy with wounded soldiers thanks to Schwartz's poor tactical combat stratagies..Floyd remains in a state of perpetual fear due to the missions Schwartz is constantly sending the troops under his command on that recklessly endanger their lives.

Dr. Grant has tried everything he can think of to reason with Schwartz, but Schwartz is too busy trying to make a name for himself, and regards Floyd as a mere nuisance who is beneath him.

Schwartz is cruel, self serving, inexperienced as a commanding officer if not incompatent, and cares nothing for the soldiers under his command. He did not earn his military rank, or his position as the commanding officer of the United Collective's military base in Anexia. He was given his rank and position by his mother who is a member of the high council.

Floyd is at his breaking point. People have seen him talking, to himself, barreling down the halls shouting, and silently rocking himself in the E.R. at night. Those who do not know him think that he is insane, and avoid him. There is a money pool going as to how many people he will be able to gun down when he finally does snap before military police can take him out. The average bet is 10.

If you are interested in joining the Project Dark Sky team send us an e-mail at ProjectDarkSky@carolina.rr.com. Let us know what skills you possess that can help with the project. Don't worry if you don't have any experience with the Fallout Tactics Editor. We can teach you everything you need to know, or find something else for you to do.

We are most interested in enthusiastic people who are willing to learn, take direction, work as a team, and take a little constructive criticism from time to time.

Our aim is to be true to the tradition of wasteland, and the fallout games. We also want to create new and exciting modes of play.

The editor has its limits, but I am convinced that as a team we can find ways to work around the snags.

Most importantly, we want to set a standard for Fallout Tactics Modding. Our objective is to create a campaign that pushes the limits of the FOT mapper.

Project Dark Sky will merge Fallout's dark humor with exotic characters, Uneque tactical combat, a powerful storyline, In depth rpg style quests, problem solving, and a kick ass soundtrack,

Specificly, we're looking for artists, modders, editors, writers, and testers, but we will take just about anyone who is enthusiastic about the project and is willing to lend a hand.
