So I get a short vacation after my thesis is all done.
Pays okay by swedish standards, Im just a tad sad that I am forced to pay the commie bastards 50% tax.
In Nevada we pay 0% tax. Enjoy your AID^H^H^H welfare nanny-state.

Nevada doesn't have state income tax because of gambling and prostitution income.
Why not add drugs and discount guns?
Drive-thru liquor store/gunshops?
How much for a thimble of water?
Oh, teh irony.
If Nevada had a currency, it would be Water Chips. (Like poker chips)
Jag måste fylla min kvot av propaganda. Inrikesdepartementets fosterländska regler 2007.
Seriously, though, it's a rather decent place to live in. Would be better without the religious power holders, high taxes and governement's paternal attitude. I, too, probably support 1 - 3 unemployed fuckers or 30 year old "pensioners" with my crappy salary.

You can't really compare standard of living if you haven't lived abroad. Depends on the neighbourhood as well. Also, if you are a rich kid like Dreadnought, you can forget about income taxes, health insurance, pensions and all that crap and just post on DAC all day long. But it's probably better to live here than in Guantanamo Bay, I suppose.
I've lived for a while in Russia (Moscow + "suburb") and in Germany (around the Schwerin - Berlin axis) and living here sure beats them, at least. My knowledge of other countries' living standards are quite limited otherwise, though.

Wait, I'm confused. Are you arguing against me or for me here?

Sure you can. That's what international purchasing power parity indices are for. While Americans are much richer than Europeans (30-50% more depending on country), quality of life is comparable, with the Nordics doing particularly well. It all depends on what you want in life: long vacations or more money to buy gadgets and big houses.

What I meant was that you can't measure the absolute happiness of an individual or compare it with someone else from another country(which is based on a 'norm person', of some sort). Instead, your happiness depends on your relative status in the local society. Sometimes you only need a huge cock to maintain a high quality of life. Would you then give a fuck about external factors such as GDP, average purchasing power or the social programs in your country? I might sound a bit dreadnoughtesque here, but those quality of life studies are bullcrap, if you ask me.
Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful. This also counts for Fallout.
As is all the Scandinavian countries, I dont mind the taxes and I pay 67%, I find it pretty balanced around what I need, I dont feel I work more then I want to and I have money for all the stuff I want so its all good .
Kashluk wrote:That's heavy, mang... 67 % income tax for the state alone? Does that include county / local taxes yet?
It includes everything our taxes have 3 levels depending on how much you make, 39%, something around 55% and the highest at 66-69% after where you live (I dont make a ton of money but since I have 3+ jobs I automatically hit 67%).
I can get 1% lower taxes though If I were to take the time and fill out the forms to do so, that 1% goes to the church and since I am atheist I really shouldnt be paying it but I havent been able to gather the energy to go to my local church and quit it.
I'm paying like 8 euros per year to the State Church, so it isn't much of a deal... Especially when you've got social pressure from your relatives and shit that stops you from dissenting.
I guess it's even heavier in Finland, if you count all the taxes in... depending on where your live and what your local politicians have decided you pay 10 - 20 % of your gross salary to local authorities + the maximum income tax is 60% for the state
