[ Game -> Article ] - More info on Game: Fallout 3

NMA has posted scans of the Fallout 3 Game Informer article. It clocks in at a whopping 10 pages. My very short take on it (I'd write more, but it's Friday night and I want to go out):

I like things, and I don't like things. What do I like? SPECIAL. The story seems pretty Fallout-ish. I like the possibility of learning what happened to DC. What don't I like? The combat system...it's tailored for consoles. The viewpoint. It's tailored for consoles (note in the article that the author decides to equate the third-person view to Resident Evil, not a PC game). The mutants seem odd looking to me. There are stupid weapons in the game too, a la FOPOS. Also, it looks like they demo'ed the game on the XBrick. Target platform? I sure hope not.

Oh...but guys listen up. They've taken soil erosion and made it sooo much better. Now, WE HAVE GUN EROSION. SWEET JESUS YES.

Thanks to Pope Viper for the heads up.

Spotted @ No Mutants Allowed

Tad points:
- The graphix
- The combat system. VATS is like RTwP with limited pausing abilities. How incredibly retarded is that?
- The hype talk. Man, there's a lot of it.
- Incredibly stupid-sounding main plot.
Good points:
- Getting some of Oblivion's more obvious flaws: less and better-worked NPCs, no level scaling, and...
- choice and consequence! Hope they get it right
- multiple endings?
- good locations, from the sound of it
- setting looks ok, 'cept for the stupid weapons and what the hell is the Brotherhood doing there?
Neutral:
- Kids are in. Unclear if you can kill them.
- Dogmeat is back as a follower.o quote myself from the Codex:

And it manages to present a system that's basically RtwP with shortened pauses as some kind of innovative spur of genius. Oh man, how can you not love it?
PS:
PS:
That's because the absurdist, 50s-retro style is gone from the looks, everywhere. Just look at how the Vault Dweller's clothing looks. Buck Rodgers outfit? Tight jumpsuit? Nope, modern gear, baby! The mutants seem odd looking to me.

About the main char:
Fallout 3: The Sims.
About the combat:
Do you reckon there will be a chance for a turn-based mod?
About the Pip Boy 3000: Nice idea with the radio stations. But I'd prefer not having a Radio installed in the pip boy from the beginning.

Hope is lost. This is Oblivion with guns. Just using my limited common sense it is obvious that this is an action-oriented game. A nuclear launcher?! what in the hell? There weren't enough weapons in the first two games so they had to invent a completely impractical one. Why would someone want a gun that launches a nuclear weapon?! Talk about radiation.
What dipshit would drink out of a post-nuke toilet bowl? Can you say yucky? The supermutants just look retarded, mentally and emotionally. I don't know if anyone noticed this but one of the supermutants is weilding a fire hydrant. Lame. lame. lame. I was also kinda hoping that giant ants would not return.
The fact that you can pause and aim anywhere on the enemy is an obvious gimmick that nobody in RT combat would ever take the time to use unless they wanted to show a friend what it's like to blow a mutants nuts off. This is a real-time game. That VATS shit is just a way to slightly slow down the combat I'm sure.

PIPBoy 3000 is looking mighty good, but the supermutants look like rejects from Doom IV. Gun erosion I like, but they're gonna have to really convince me that this first-person perspective is so much better that I'll forget about the originals. Craig Mullins clueless art aside, it does have the look and feel of the 50s, especially the leather suit.
