New poll
[ Community -> Update ]

I've put up a new poll. It's pretty simple.

The last poll showed that a little less than half of you liked the Fallout 3 teaser trailer, while 12% of you thought "FPS OH NO YOU DIDN'T"

I would have thought the themes and atmosphere of Fallout were the most important factor. Even Interplay themselves had every intention of making the next in the franchise a first-person 3D game with an option for realtime; why should Bethesda do any different? Why isn't anybody here concerned that it's not using Van Buren material?
Third-person isometric isn't the be-all end-all of gameplay. Even Interplay knew that.
Frankly, I agree with my old roomie. Y'all are just terrified that they'll get the important stuff wrong, and are displacing that terror into a distaste for a valid alternative already explored by the parent company. Frankly, I'm far more concerned about how well they'll work with the themes and atmosphere. They've already secured matchless voice talent in Ron Perlman and Liam Neeson, so I don't think we need to worry about sound; the visuals are vintage Fallout, and it seems this will be extended actively to landscapes you travel through. I've been afraid to look until now, but I think it seems promising. Maybe even extremely worthy.
In short, you can't reasonably hate Bethesda for pursuing the same gameplay style that the Van Buren Fallout 3 project was originally going to be built with; that's just nit picking anyway.

Who the hell cares about gimmicky things like sound, graphics, etc? I don't care if Fallout's graphics were 2d and it had only a few voice actors. The writing was phenomenal. That kind of thing is timeless, and it trumps stupid gimmicks like pixel shaders and voice actors.

and they've already fucked the themes and atmosphere by turning the game into a SURVIVAL-HORROR shooter in the same vein as Resident Evil or Gears of War. I think I swallowed something extra with that last gulp of toilet water maybe BethSoft wants to box it.macksting wrote:I would have thought the themes and atmosphere of Fallout were the most important factor.

I think this game actually has the potential to become a very good tactical post (nuclear) apoc game in the fallout setting. Sadly --- it won't be Fallout 3 game, though
