Ken Levine is smart
<strong>[ Game -> Article ]</strong> - More info on <a href="#Bioshock">Game: Bioshock</a>
<p>I thought this was kind of relevant...</p><p>Irrational's <strong>Ken Levine</strong> was <a href="http://interviews.teamxbox.com/xbox/200 ... art-II/p1/" target="_self">interviewed by Team XBox</a> about his upcoming game <em>Bioshock</em> (which I'm sure eveyone has heard of by now). In this interview, Ken discusses the fact that there is no multiplayer in <em>Bioshock</em>, and he offers a very good reason why:</p><blockquote>
<em><strong>What about multiplayer?</strong></em>
<p><em>
Ken Levine: Not in this game.
</em></p><p>
<em><strong>Is that something…</strong></em>
</p><p><em>
Ken Levine: A lot of people ask about it. If we had multiplayer in this
game, BioShock would not be the game it is. You only have so many hours
in the day. </em></p><p><em>
The list of games that have ground-breaking [gameplay]…whether it's GTA
or, I'm trying to think…even the initial Half-Life multiplayer was kind
of a joke. Nobody played the initial Half-Life deathmatch. It wasn't
until there was Counter-Strike. </em></p><p><em>
It's very hard to do a ground-breaking game and do [good multiplayer]
at the same time. We only want to do ground-breaking crap. If we can't
do it ground breaking, I'm not just going to do something like, "Oh,
and by the way, there's a multiplayer mode"…so, guess what, we're not
going to put it on the box. </em></p><p><em>
And to Marketing's credit, they were on board for that, that it wasn't
just something we were going to put on the box. They could have
demanded that, and they didn't.</em> </p></blockquote><p>"Oh, and by the way, there's a nukular catapult." </p><p> </p><p>Spotted @ <a href="http://ve3d.ign.com/">Voodoo Extreme</a></p>

A FPS without multiplayer, without coop play, without LAN, without probably a fucking manual in the cheap slim DVD box. A FPS/RPG, which is actually a FPS. A FPS with a strange setting, no kill se bad mutants, no kill se bad nazis. A FPS with guys like this on the team. Holy shit. It`s gonna be Daikatana all over again. Bring this bitch on Steam for 20$ if you want to see profit.
Stop reading here. You suck.

Play System Shock 2 before offering your opinion on Bioshock's gameplay
And remember what RPG stands for... RPG does not mean 'statistics, dice rolls, equations and melf's acid arrow'. Bioshock contains nonlinear choice, heavy character upgrading (though via achieving things and finding them, not just by endlessly killing monsters), an open enviroment within a sealed city zone.. Just like System Shock 2, one of the best games I've ever played.

C'mon! Why go original when you can go with the flow! Wheee!Mechanurgist wrote:The design and art of Bioshock is cool, but it's still just another FPS (with superpowers). Yawn.
The only fps I've ever liked is the Unreal Tournaments, because they are what they are. FPS.

jeah nonlinear choice liek do i use my super rocketlauncha to kill the big HipHop BigPoppa, i mean BigDaddy, because he likes it when you call him Big Daddy, cause tonight i see so many little sisters, who should having my baby, or do i use my super pimped shotgun with 1337 fx effects to show your cool friendz. If System Shock 2 is one of the best games you ever have played, then i feel sorry for you.T-900 wrote:Bioshock contains nonlinear choice, heavy character upgrading (though via achieving things and finding them, not just by endlessly killing monsters), an open enviroment within a sealed city zone.. Only the first one was really great. The others... are just okay, but nothing outstanding. The first UT is certainly one of the game I played the most. And there were tons of great mods for it, too.
The first one had the most "Woah" thing for me, the rest have been the adjustments to perfection. Still I don't rate fps really high on the gaming scene, but as for fps...UT.
