They're all fat, middle-aged guys at Gamespy, so I get them confuddled easily. Is that you Delsyn? Got a picture of yourself?

Anyhow, to answer your question: No, it's not sunk. BethSoft is doing quite a few things right and they certainly have a lot of enthusiasm. Some of the concepts, like radiation, PIPBoy radio and weapon/item jury-rigging, are great. Others, like VATS and the GOAT chargen process, have potential but remain unproven, and given Bethesda's previously-broken promises in regards to Oblivion I would be skeptical. Isometric view? Data seems sketchy so far and I'm inclined to think it won't really work out.

The things that seem, at first glance, to suck are the Doom-like mutant models, the resurrection of the greatly-reviled level-scaling system (even Oblivion fans hated it!) and the first-person perspective, which I'm not personally keen on (I guess I'm European then?). I also refuse - on past evidence - to believe Bethesda will craft dialogue and a story worthy of the series. Honestly, the dialogue (and speech interaction) in the Elder Scrolls series has been fucking 'orrible. If they can overcome these last two shortfalls this may be a good game. I don't think it's going to be a masterpiece of the calibre of Fallout or Planescape: Torment though.

branching quests, check.
real dialog, check.
multiple paths, tentative check.
combat that doesn't suck as much choad as Oblivion's, real time with pause? :? that's your compromise for TB fans? :drunk: sounds good, rummy.

not cheesing it up, che... hey get that fucking nuke catapult out of here. why are you drinking from the toilet? there's a perfectly good canteen over there? what? the radiation makes your balls tingle? who let the fucking locusts from gears come over? I asked for a super mutant, you know, green hunched over, kind of dumb but lethal in that too strong for his own good kind of way?

How can we be fans of something that doesn't exist. I don't even really care about Fallout, but it seems like some of the stuff in the game looks like pap. If it wasn't Fallout 3 I wouldn't even give a little ducks ass fuck, but eh...mini-nuke launchers? A toaster as a weapon? It just seems like an episode of the simpsons about fallout or something.

I kind of like all the chuff fallout fans get though. A niche group in a fringe society, surrounded by myths and unstoppable dry kisses. Other communities have done something with the game, like mods or what have you. Fallout fans just argue forever, a juggernaut of silly logic and replying to each sentence within a quote and writing a paragraph about it. Ridiculous and beautiful.

Well, I was really not happy to learn that they're primarily developing the game on the Xbox, at all. But I was still a little heartened by other things I've read in previews.

Oh...and thank god :psychosniper: is still confined to the Wasteland..err Killa Forum.

He's just mad at us, 'cos they don't know how to make FO3 a decent sequel to FO2, thus satisfying the only true fans. E.g., why bother inventing sth like VATS or CTB when: 1) it really kills all the FO elements, tactics and primary skills' usefulness (I won't go into details now, but remember of Sequence and APs-recharging slower or faster-it's a complete new game genre!), and 2) it's a single player game! There will never be, like, thousands of characters on a single location (like in a multiplayer or MMORPG game), so that we have to wait a couple of days just to get the next turn!

If their goal is to target a different "audience" (XBox), why take the name Fallout if they don't fulfill our, true fans', expectations and needs? That, target, audience probably didn't even heard of FO.

To me, FO: BOS isn't bad mostly because of its design (its oriented on Commandos), but for the very CTB mode! TB isn't functional as it was in FO(2). Just remember walking around the map in combat. It's so imprecise-there aren't defined hexes or grids which really add to gameplay and functionality. Also, in CTB or VATS, there's a possibility of instant death! Picture this: If you walk into an ambush or if you run into a bunch of enemies, sure, you get the opportunity to fire once or even twice in that CTB/VATS mode. But so do those enemies. You fire a shot, all of them (let's say six) fire a shot. You fire your second shot, they fire their second shot. It all happens in a blink of an eye in that CTB/VATS, and you realize that suddenly you're DEAD on the ground.
