what was that stephen king short story

Post by Mr. Teatime »

Discussed here a while back as being kind of the pinnacle of his work, a short story he wrote. I can't remember the name, and the search function is pretty useless (or I am). Anyone remember?

cheers.

The Mist? Any description of the story? I consider The Mist to be the best work of his I have read.

Probably Shawshank Redemption or maybe Stand By Me, but The Stand is usually thought to be the pinnacle of his work (or The Shining if you're old-school).

And with that, a select rundown:

Carrie - Good book, lousy movie.
The Dark Half - Okay.
Desperation - Great.
Dolores Claiborne - Great.
Gerald's Game - Good.
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon - Good.
Hearts in Atlantis - His best, IMO.
Insomnia - Ehh.
It - Didn't finish it, but what I read was good.
Misery - Great, miles better than the movie.
Rose Madder - Lame.
'Salem's Lot - Lame.
The Shining - Very good, also miles better than the movie.
Pet Sematary - Ehh.
The Stand - Didn't finish it, but supposedly good.
The Tommyknockers - Ehh.

The best short story of his I've read is "The Langoliers". Seriously, it's insanely awesomely good.

I'm currently reading Blaze, published under his Bachman alias. Not really one of his best, in my humble opinion, but okay to read while stuck on the top of a mountain in Phoenix with nothing else but tv and teh intarwebs for entertainment.

For novella: The Running Man.

Better than the film.

The ending is crashing an airliner into a television network headquarters.

I found the Langoliers film to be pretty good back in the days, the book was a good film adaptation :flamed:

One of his best short stories imho is Jerusalem's Lot. Got some huge shivers while reading it, when I was 11.
