music to drive around in the desert to

Talk about music, movies, TV, books, other types of entertainment and what your vices are. Also, if you're addicted to the high you get off Aspirin, this is the place to talk about it.

Not arabic, but the Mechwarrior 2 soundtrack (starting on track 2 of the game cd) is really good for driving around open spaces.

Found in bargain bins all over.

Albeit obvious - the fallout soundtrack is always a good choice. Alech Taadi by Cheb Khaled is another good choice, infact, most of his songs have a pretty good middle eastern sound to them, but that one in particular is good.

I highly suggest Tiniwaren, one of your Earth rock bands that formed in a Libyan refugee camp during a time of civil war. They are Touareg desert tribesmen whose musical creations seem to capture the harsh essence of desert life and bloody conflict. Two subjects, friends, about which I know volumes.

"...Restored to their original linguistic and geographic milieu, the people of the desert stop being ‘Touaregs' - a false name meaning ‘abandoned by God' which was given to them by the Arabs - and become imajeghen (‘free men') or kel Tamashek (‘The Tamashek speaking peoples')...."

Looks good.

I'm still looking for the indian chanting/acoustic guitar/gong-banging beautiful chaos I originally found on a website in the 90's. Just can't seem to find it again.

That is the strangest mix of music ever chosen.

You should do a megamix of all those.
