That made me think of something. If the US Army were to use VBS2 (Virtual Battlespace Systems 2, a military simulator based on Bohemia Interactive's Real Virtuality engine, used in Operation Flashpoint and later in ArmA) rather than America's Army as a propaganda tool, I bet they'd increase their volunteer rate by a hell of a lot compared to the amount of people that have joined the Army due to the influence of America's Army. Hell, people would be joining just to play the game! But if the US Army or some doorknob student game-makers want to knock themselves out making propaganda games that no-one will buy, let 'em at it and let the free market sort 'em out.
New Age of Video Games?
"When conversing about oligarchy, you must consider this point: Many children are taught from an early age that monarchies are primarily benevolent, and are given very little to discourage this opinion until at least adolesence. Even more prevalent are stories about the supposed benevolence of heirs to the throne, symbolising a cycle which they are taught is good."

So yeah, what catman28 is saying here, in a nutsack, is that he really loves and supports Bethesda, because they continually fuck us on our realistic expectations that they produce a game that doesn't suck once in the ten quadrillion seconds they've spent producing shitty games for fuckers who can't fathom a role playing game.
You can't kill the fucking politicians in their newest fail. Hows that for your fun escapism? Even if you walk/sneak/jump/tumble/whatever into the count's mansion, stick a giant, really really big style large type heavy and possibly sharp thing through him, to the point where he plays his unrealistic death animation, you can be assured your escapism won't be shattered by him ACTUALLY dying, and the people actually reacting to it, in a way that makes you actions feel like they actually matter aside from the static quest with a static ending the Obliteration: O'Our Own Franchise IV engine provides.
So in a way, catman21@hotmail.com, you are absolutely correct. Fucking morons can't handle role playing games, they want a video game, like Dragon's Lair for laser disc. Video, with a part where you can interact. Pushing it ever so slightly into the "game" zone.
Ahem.
I fucking hate this thread.

Ahem. You talk about world of warcraft again and I'm going to take time out to reeducate you.Pherdnut wrote:I don't really see the point of turning a supposedly realistic FPS into a forum for anti-war protest. Even liberal anti-war types trying to play their game wouldn't exactly have their resolve strengthened. The WOW gay-bi-clan issue was way more interesting.

If you look at two current games, Mass Effect and Bioshock, they are clearly social commentaries on things happening in our society right now. The good doctors from Bioware have said in an interview with gamespot.com that Mass Effect is, among other thing, a cautionary tale of how artificial intelligence can go wrong.
Bioshock is, of course, inspired by the writings by Ayn Rand. However, after playing the demo, I also thought Bioshock could be seen as social commentary to what happens to a society where all morals & ethics has been abandoned in favor of power and betterment of the human race. And perhaps a warning sign of what we're headed for, if & when we continue to head in the direction we're heading right now.
However, good games are always political, political games are always bad...

Video games suck, and the world sucks. Talk about social commentary.

You can't, it's Koki.
It's like that one game....darklands I think - first video game w/ a sex scene and the designers are going "oh it's so integral to the story - THAT'S why it's different, not gratuitous."
If I want to see naked bodies I'll watch porn. I'm playing a video game. Not watching porn. Let me kill shit and find shit etc etc lather rinse repeat.
I think the problem comes from a bunch of nerd ass bitches who design games because they could never get any sweet ass in school and now they're making up for it by designing their own animated porn. It's like anime freaks who have to watch cartoons fucking.

Of course!cazsim83 wrote:Srsly - can anybody make a game w/ a storyline that appeals to someone over the age of 15?
Guess how it ends. Age distribution of "witches":Wikipedia wrote:Doki Doki Majo Shinpan! (どきどき魔女神判!, Dokidoki Majo Shinpan?, lit. "Thump-Thump Witch Judgement") is a game developed by SNK Playmore for Nintendo DS.
The player assumes the role of high school student Akuji. He has been asked by an angel, Lulu, to locate a witch that has snuck into his school. In order to find the witch Akuji must search the suspects' bodies for a "witch mark". The preferred method is by using touch (using the stylus to guide his hands).
