Please Help!!
I would really appreciate if anyone could help me with this...
I've bought that double fallout pack a couple weeks ago, and got to the cathedral yesterday. I walked inside the elevator that should take me to the third level, but when I click the 3rd level button I get an error (Falloutw has cause an error in kernel32.dll...). I'm guessing it has something to do with a cinematic which should appear, but I'm not sure.
My game version is up to date, and I'm using windows 98 SE.
So, what can I do? Is there anyway I can DISABLE the cinematics (even though the other ones played flawlessly)? I really want to finish this, it really is one of the best games I've ever played. Also, I don't have anywhere I could buy a new copy, since I bought this one in the UK, whereas they don't sell the pack here.
My specs are:
Pentium 4, 1700 MHZ
128 SDRAM
GeForce 2 MX
Thanks ahead.

Well, there are no cinematics with the Cathedral, excepting the one where you blow it up, but that is when you leave. kernel32.dll is one of the core parts of Windows, and that is why it pops up so much in error messages.
If your save game is on the first level, try to going to second, or vice versa if otherwise. It might be your graphics card. I don't know.

It has nothing to do w/ the copy. I also got those error pretty often, but most of the time, before loading the cinematic sequence. Have you tried repeatedly load it for a thousand times?

Hrm, only tried reloading a few items...
But don't you think it's weird that I'm getting that error with both my saved character and a new character? I'm not sure just reloading would help, but I'll go try.
Also, tomorrow I'll test it out on my other computer, if it won't work then, then there's probably not much I can do.

There should be some windows updates you can download... sounds like your version of windows tries to protect you from the main boss
If that doesn't help, how about trying with the unpatched version of Fallout. I know, a crap idea, but if it works... At least it's not as buggy as Fallout2.

Well, tell us how it goes when that is done. The problem does seem oddly familiar to me thoughs. Can't remember what happened exactly, or how I fixed it. Maybe men from the future came and neuralized me, because I would tell you how to fix it, and you would be inside playing Fallout, instead of going out and meeting a nice chick, and the child would grow up to invent interstellar travel! Or not....

Welp, updated my windows, still no go.
This is so weird, it drives me crazy. Only at this spot am I having problems, and there's not even a cinematic there, so I can't imagine what can be wrong. It's not like the place is using different gfx or something
I'll post again tomorrow after I'll check it out on my other computer. Thanks everybody.
Edit: Oh and dude, your theory seems awfully off base to me, since I had already finished Fallout 2, about 6 times actually. If anything, Fallout 2 has already taken what was left of my social life when I first discovered it. The men from the future should've acted earlier if you ask me

For me it looks like perfectly good video error. Video error does not necessarily mean that you have some scrambled video or something like that. Video card drivers are small piece of code that is running inside OS kernel, because they need to be very fast and they can not afford to switch between kernel mode and user mode. As a payback of that, any error in video driver can (and frequently do) bring down full machine with some kernel error. Well, but how to troubleshoot such issues?Kleptomaniac wrote:Don't think it's my video card, that doesn't seem like a video error...
1) Try to reduce usage of video card advanced features. I think that also in Win 98 there was somewhere under video card properties option to reduce acceleration or something like that (I don’t have any Win98 box nearby and have not used one for a long time so I am not very sure)
2) Update everything in sight to latest updates:
– computer BIOS
– video card BIOS
– video card drivers
– DirectX
