Killzig wrote:my biggest complaint right now is that they really crippled the way you can replay the game by way of the enemy AI. It seems like all enemies have some sort of GPS-locator on your ass and just flock to you no matter where you are on the map. I had a situation where a big daddy tripped over one of my wires and came chasing me from a completely different zone.
Yeah, had that problem too, the camouflage plasmid worked pretty well in stopping that rubbish though, or having an enrage/security on hand. But the point remains that you shouldn't HAVE to.

I managed to hide from security bots during an alarm. They can fly right past you. If they find you, kill it and find a new hiding spot, because they look in the last spot where you were seen.

So that part works fine. And you don't need any camouflage.

Doesn't work with anything else though..

I never got that situation from bots, they seemed to always know where I was but I rarely set off alarms so it didn't happen much. They travel in pairs and by the time you kill one another will come in its place before you can kill the other one.

I usually start discussions and ask them about the meaning of life, and if it's really worth killing me. They are usually easy to convince to lay their weapons down and share a spliff with me.

Ok... I Just whack'n'hack them.

Yeah, so i figured out what causes that shit. It's the way the enemies spawn. The hyper linear event engine in this game makes enemies spawn every single time to do an event that warrants it.

Hack a turret, camera, etc and watch them spawn. Perfect if you have double search and need some supplies.

I've been actually circumventing turrets and shit for exactly that reason on hard, money sucks to come by, so if I need to backtrack a little bit, I can rake in a few extra bills after fucking up and buring 28 thousand medpacks on something stupid. That, and chewing down a big daddy with sister for free is always worth a lil backtrackin'.

My biggest <3 for this game is the theme though. It reminds me in great, tasty detail how a game can really get you sometimes, simply by how well done the environment is. Enough for me to overlook the "streamlining of the system shock model" that is really "linearization" and "mechanics easier to play on xbox".

Still, bioshock compared to system shock is what I expect to see in a market filled with fucking stupid people who play fucking stupid games. It's cool, Bioshock is well done, and I love it.

Fallout 3 on the other hand is the end of days.

Fuck.

Bioshock sucks. The setting sucks, the presentation sucks, the enemies suck. It's just another by-product of dumbed-down bullshit sparked by Oblivion and other games made by Bethesda and Bioware.

It's great for showing off your computer hardware, though and it looks nice. Go capitalists!

Finished the game today, story kind of falls apart/loses steam after the Ryan encounter. Since I got the good ending I had a nice resolution to it. I reloaded an earlier save and killed a little sister to see the bad end. That was kind of meh.

All in all, I really wouldn't say this game is simplified for console gamers. The difficulty does ramp up as you further into the game. You are given a lot of options for using the environment, your plasmids and weapons. The research aspect helps you gain that extra edge if you are more of a comprehensive gamer. As a shooter, it's a very good one.

What I didn't like:

enemy variation:

They limited themselves too much in keeping splicers looking human. With all the hype around adam/plasmids they should have had more notable characters who let the adam/plasmids get to them and turn them into raging psychotics/unified with their environments. had more enemies like Dr. Steinman and Sander Cohen who are both great characters with story arcs relayed through their 'levels' / game areas. Ditto Ryan.

Didn't care for the helpful NPC/turned enemy thing. Again. The good/evil choice is horribly over-hyped and completely meaningless to the game play. The final fight is terrible. Finished it on the first go since the AI was not too challenging and I found a winning combo pretty quickly with my arsenal. Atlas' character design at the end is god awful and might as well be a walking easter egg/homage. Lame. In fact, the whole last hour or so of the game is pretty lazy design all around.

Any replay value or is it too soon for that? I don't get the point of purchasing a game where I can see everything in a weekend and be done with it.

Yeah, finished it tonight. It's got minimal replay value, assuredly, but then again, I didn't exactly want to scream out and play system shock 1 or 2 or even DX again after I'd beaten it, and after getting the (delightful in my opinion, but only in subject matter, both the endings are real weak) "evil" ending, I fired it up again because I wanted to see if I could land the teleportation plasmid.

I don't know if you can even pick it up anywhere, I just didn't see it around but always wanted it in my body like a tentacle lubed up with ecstasy.

they removed the teleport plasmid. The replay value is limited since the evil/good paths play identically. (kotor style, baby!)

The last 1/4 of the game makes you want to quit gaming almost. It's that bad. It's a like a video game directed by Steven Spielberg in that you're suckered into thinking it's going to maintain this quality throughout and then he just completely shits the bed in the final act of the film. Exactly that feeling. Final boss = lolkiddieconsoleshit.

Aye, the last part of the game is a a slouch. The story turns a bit dumb and the final boss didn't really fit the game I don't think.

I'm replaying it slowly on hard, but like you guys said the replay value is pretty low. I got most of the stuff my first play through so its not like theres much else I can get it. They had too many weapons upgrade stations, you shouldn't be able to upgrade almost all the guns in one playthrough.

Yeah, they should have cut you loose with a samurai death when you figured out the TWIST. As soon as you start hearing frau krautenstein a bunch on the radio, the game's over, and even though some of the most difficult combat is in the last two areas before the boss, you (if you were I) already have autohack on everything, so you just sprint thru, hack all the cams and turrets, then hide in a corner and soak up adam with trap bolt strings + infinite camera bots.

I think that the parts bioshock fell short on were a pretty good balance to the stuff they did right. I'm real glad I didn't pay for it (Steam lets you install and run it simul on 5 different computers for $50, so my buddy hooked it up), as I hate paying for movies. But as a movie, it was pretty engrossing until the proverbial bed shit.

Also, here's a shitty spoiler for you bastards, anyone else notice that the wrench is the best weapon to use on the boss?

I used 3 first aid kits fighting him on hard. I never played it on easy or medium, because after playing the demo I realized that you can throw your goddamn corpse at enemies over and over again for the highlander win. I probably died 300 times. Easily. But it was hilarious. But shitty, when I realized that hard gives you not a fucking thing unless you are looking for xbawks achievements, and want your cock to jump up into your torso and try to stab your heart to death from touching an xbox controller.
