I remember reading the Noir and Shadowrun and Werewolf PHs and I actually enjoyed reading them. I thought I must have missed something and read them a few more times over, because it didn't feel like a chore like the D&D books did. I would have liked to played those games, and if I did I'd probably have a more positive outlook on PnP roleplaying games, but it's too hard to find people who play them where I live. Oh well.
Edit- oh yeah, Deadlands was cool, too.

what i hate the most about d&D 3rd edition, is the fact that the system itself brings so much power to the player, and they start acting like a lame version of the power rangers in rpg (like it could be better than lame)
powers each level, super freaking cool armors and stances, even the unworthy peasants look like superstars. it just looks like final fantasy in a medieval (and a supposed) typical setting.
i hate that there are so many bonuses for anything, then, having a +30 to a skill, where you normally roll the d20 die, where the hell is the probability?
the settings are ok IMO, i like the fantasy setting, the background, (FR, Dragonlance, darksun, etc) but the system is just too comercial, like the late era of the 2nd edition (damn Skills and powers!!!)
i liked 2nd edition, till i saw skills and powers, and all those munchkins started to pray for a new "munchkinable" edition, and behold, there is 3rd edition, and 3.5

It's a good thing you did leave. Those uber-nerds are really serious about that kind of stuff. CLOAKS? Really???Neon Dingo wrote:I tried getting into it with my friend and we'd went to this comic book shop at like midnight (after noticing that it's open next door to a resturant) to check out what kinds of books they had. We were interested in this supposed Shadowrun PNP, it sounded pretty neat since the SNES game was a damn cool game, but we were also trying to get into AD&D.
So we walk in and there's like a dozen of the most pale nerds I'd ever seen in my life in fucking CLOAKS sitting around this table with little tin action figures and an entire meticulously crafted landscape. They all look at us like we're both convicted child molesters for about 2 minutes in silence and then their apparent "leader" exclaims "LEAVE. NOW."
Very unnerving experience. I can't say I wanted to get into it after that.
Ahahaha! I laughed. It sounds worse than the times in Jr High me and a few friends would play - no dice, no rules really, just me making up a story - one of my friends actually borderline hated another one, so he would always dig pits and set up traps and knock him out "accidentally" in the middle of fights. I'm an asshole - I let it happen and laughed.

D&D is for nerds. I played MAGIC for maybe two months because I got some cards for free. My friends just made up rules because we didn't know how to play and the MAGIC nerds at my school were very abrasive and uninviting.

Not only does this thread fucking suck, but I'm astounded that someone actually came onto DAC to bitch about how they're so fucking stupid that they find the d&d rules to be "overly complicated" and require "knowledge of the rules" to play.
It fucking tells you how to play you asshat, it's no more complex than checkers, and checkers doesn't usually have a motherfucking detailed instruction set with it, someone has to teach you to play.
Goddamnit I hate the internet. That's what I hate. I hate the ability for fucking stupid people to post fucking stupid things without the fucking beautiful consequences.
I want to stick you in a goddamn Sander Cohen statue, you idiot.
