Bruce Nesmith, Director of Design at Bethesda, appears in this issue of Inside the Vault. It seems there will be no more questions about playing Fallout:<blockquote dir="ltr" style="margin-right: 0px">How many board games do you current have? Your favorites?I don’t know how many board games I have. I know that they fill a wall, floor to ceiling and about 16 feet long. Let’s just say it’s a lot. La-la-la.I’m also very fond of Star Fleet Battles, Carcassonne, and Space Hulk. I could list a dozen more, but that would defeat the purpose. (...)What is your favorite part about working on Fallout? I’ve always loved the post-apocalyptic setting. I did a lot of work with Gamma World while at TSR and really loved it. It was one of my favorite non-traditional roleplaying games. In particular, the work we’re doing with multiple paths through a quest and the moral choices the player has to make are very cool.It also doesn’t suck to empty a clip into a Supermutant and watch him dissolve into a gory mess. (...)What kinds of games to you play?I play almost any type of game, except sports games. I’m particularly partial to strategy games. I’ve played a wide variety of first person shooters and roleplaying games as well. I’ve been a huge fan of the Civilization games, Half-Life, and Baldur’s Gate.What is your favorite game from the past year?I’d have to say Company of Heroes. It’s the best RTS I’ve ever played, and I’ve played a lot of them. Space Empires V would run a close second. It’s a little known turn based strategy game of interstellar conquest.What games are you looking forward to?I’m eager to play Bioshock and Mass Effect. Both look amazing.What are you hobbies and interests?I love astronomy. Unfortunately the light pollution in my town is pretty bad, so observing is difficult. This guy sorta sounds like he should be one of the ones we retain after the revolution. We have the technology to strip the memory of shitty beth games from him, as he seems not to mention them, probably because he knows they fucking suck.

Nice to hear about Gamma World. I just wish more people responded with "RPGs" when asked what their favorite type of game is.

Quite a similar taste of games as I have. I haven't enjoyed playing RPGs in many o' years, partially because there aren't any.

Just play some adventure games mang, no possible shitty combat system, but tons of dialogue and even a storyline.

Well, the new Sam & Max games aren't that good and I miss adventure games with that goofy LucasArts humor. I occasionally enjoy a strategy game, though.

There are still good old adventures around, i doubt you have played them all, try some Companions of Xanth, word on the street is, that it is quite bueno, i`m currently playing it on dosbox. Police Quest, Space Quest, Kings Quest or more Quests... all of them are enjoyable as well, if you wanna some new stuff Moment of Silence(?), Ankh, or whatever. Runaway 1 and 2 etc.

I like the cover and I'll look into it. I recently(6 months ago) finished 'Beneath a Steel Sky' for the first time, recommend it. The Dig and Loom are the other classics that I've missed.

Done, except for a silly few Kings Quests. Don't know if I've gotten softer, but those sudden deaths can feel a bit frustrating at times.

Moment of Silence(?), Ankh, or whatever. Runaway 1 and 2 etc.

Never heard of them and they don't sound very appealing either.

I played Beneath of a Steel Sky, too, but i have forgotten like half of the game, don`t know exactly anymore what`s it about, Simon The Sorcerer(not 3D) is also quite good. Runaway has a very unique artstyle, it looks very nice, definitely worthy. Sometimes playing old adventures is like drinking a fine old wine.

I should actually do both at the same time.

try Stupid Invaders. I've just finished it and I gotta say I haven't played such enjoyable game in a long time. Puzzles aren't too tough and too many of the jokes are about farting and such, but art direction and overall comic value plus story are truly bueno. I'd say it's almost as good as Grim Fandango (the best adventure for me).

Yeah, he actually doesn't sound so bad.

For a lot of old (classic) games, try abandonia.com - I've gotten a few old games that I remember from like 8-10 years ago, sometimes older, on there, and I'm sure they have Beneath a Steel Sky as well.

fuck abandonia. www.the-underdogs.info ftw. best adventure game ever in my opinion was sanitarium though there are dubious links where one might obtain others such as phantasmagoria and gabriel knight. always classics.

edit: beneath a steal sky fucking rules. and they have emulators to run those games perfectly(not dosbox, though it does work)

I've run into lag issues w/ underdogs lately, and also download issues. I tried dl'ing 2 games lately and they both quit mid-way. Maybe I need to check my 'net connection, but that's my story so far.

If you want to play 'beneath a steel sky' there is no need to go to abandonia.com or the underdog-info or anywhere else to get. The game can be gotten from this place: http://www.revolution.co.uk

It is released as freeware by the company who made it

Very nice gesture, I think.

And yes, Bruce does indeed sound like a decent fellow
