Dude there's this part where Antonio Banwhatthefuck (playing an arab or something) sits around a campfire with all these Nordic vikings, of whose language he has never heard one word of before.
At this point he is alone and the story has to move forward with everyone communicating in english (as if they all speak the same language now, even thouugh neither speak english). Anyway he sits around the campfire for a few hours intently listening. Suddenly he puts words together, then he hears them talking shit about him. All of a sudden he stands up and gives them what for in theit native tongue.
They're like "how'd you know our tongue?"
And he hops up and in a piece of overacting that would make William Shatner in his heydey blush he says
"I LISTened!"
I don't think I can descibe it properly, watch this, and if you're still interested in the movie, you're a philistine.

start around 1:45, he masters their language in less than 2 minutes!
Remember the old Shogun miniseries? It took Richard Chamberlain like a week to learn basic Japanese, and by then the viewers had learned it with him. You either do shit like that properly or it just looks bad when you try to explain it away in a 2 minute exposition.

With proper editing, Antonio Banderas can learn anything.... amazing.

Yeah it's a one time only, mediocre, throw away movie. The exact reason I don't buy DVDs anymore unless it's something I know I'll watch more than a few times.Thor Kaufman wrote:I liked the 13th Warrior back when I watched it, that scene is indeed retarded, but I think the film is not supposed to be taken seriously, anyway, you palestine.

13th warrior is good, I actually thought the language speaking scene was quite original or at least gave the movie added quality. They could have had everyone speaking English from the get go but they decided to deal with unrealism with some realism to bring it back even though its not that realistic(make sense?). It wasn't realistic but I don't think it would have been as enjoyable if it took Antonio the whole movie of working with the vikings to learn a few words.
Lo goes my father...
I loved that part.

The 13th Warrior is based on a Michael Crichton book called "Eaters of the Dead" - in the book, he only understands very little of the language, and his main translator is one of the Nordic people. It's actually one of my favorite movies and books - plus the book is pretty short. It's written as if it's like a college term paper or something. It's kinda neat.
It's probably the only movie I could really stand antonion banderas - I hate his acting, especially in Desperado and Once Upon A Time in Mexico, almost as much as I hate Keanu Reeves acting.
BTW - With all this Nordic discussion, I'm really surprised TNP isn't in on it

You have to hide some of the porn as your little rhino grows up. By the way, that secret stash would be one cool birthday present when he turns 15. :paternal advice:ExtremeDrinker wrote:Our last official count was 346. We've added a substantial number since then so I'd estimate 430 or so. I go for garage sales and thrift stores so I can get like 10 for a dollar.

So how does this relate to how many DVD's you got?cazsim83 wrote:a friend of a friend that I met while drunk (which only made it better and stranger) has all original artwork in his house. Nude princess peach, goombas all colored different - mostly Nintendo characters, but it was pretty freaky.
The retardiness on your behalf is astounding!

"his walls are filled w/ records" - this guy's walls were filled with original artwork - it happened to be weird nintendo shit. Fuck you - learn to read.
