No. the engine revs like it should. It'll go in drive but in reverse it does nothing but revs.

Sounds like the valve body...

Fallout Ranger, what you think is more likely? That it's the valve body or the reverse gear in the transmission?

Not a valve body, unless you're a pro, or a very good amateur...

Check the fluid first, just to make sure before taking any steps or buying anything.

If it's the transmission I'm fucked. The car might be worth $700. I hope its just the fluid. The problem is I can't find the fucking dipstick and the owner's manual is nowhere to be found.

Guaranteed it's the tranny.

If it was low on fluid, it would fuck around in all gears, not completely ignore one.

I'm betting you got either metal flakes or a broken spring blocking flow which easily costs more than your car to repair.

Even downtime for you to do it might take awhile if you haven't done it before.

I'm not too good with transmissions anyways, so I'll hand this off to Gore and chime in if I have anything of value :doubtful:.

Well I found the dipstick and wiped it down and the thing looks empty. My car has been lurching when I accelerate from a dead stop and, correct me if I'm wrong, but that can sometimes be caused by low transmission fluid right?
The car has been running pretty funky lately but I was able to reverse just last night and now I can't.

Also, I put the car into drive and moved forward a bit, then when I put it back into reverse and tried to back out again, the car moved forward as if it was still in drive.

Ok so I let the car run for a bit and checked the fluid again and the damn thing is empty. I think its been leaking, as it was doing this summer. There had been a crack somewhere and the fluid was leaking. So maybe that's the problem entirely.. I'm hoping, praying.
