Yes let us all own every weapon ever produced!!!! I'm being serious by the way and not at all sarcastic. Anyway the AK is still the best BATTLE rifle around. All that slop means that it will work when you need it and that's what makes something useful in battle. Having said that I have a cousin who just got back from Spec 4 duty in Iraq and he said the first thing him and his crew would do is lose the m-4's and pick up AK's off dead insurgents. Either way it all comes down to personal preference. If you're too much of a pussy to handle anything higher than 5.56.....

Gore - I think if somebody can afford it, they should be able to buy whatever armanments are available. Tanks, planes, whatever. I do however draw the line at nukes. We don't want reallife Fallout, do we? Although, there's this really good company called Bethesda that is making an incredibly lifelike version of a post-apocalyptic rpg called...oh wait....

i wont use anything under a 7.62x54r.

but i do have and affinity for old centerfire sharps .50 cal buffalo
rounds.. not very tactical.. but ohhh do they make a mess.

the hornady .17 makes me wanna puke... tactically.. interesting .. but

It's a good varmint round but that's about it. They're more expensive than good old .22 lr and produce similar results. Also, since you keep speaking "tactically" 7.62x54r is a little overkill for most tactical situations. It's a great round, I love my Nagant, but there are some good rounds out there that are better in a closer fight.

perhaps i should explain my definition of civilian use...

urban guerrilla warfare...

basically its the best all around rifle that isn't a shotgun and isn't meant for sniping.

just got done watching red dawn...
and in seattle...you'd only need an ak, at least to get a hold of better things...

what i mean by civ use is that UNTIL later thats all i'll need, until something goes wrong...

gore - the rifle i learned on was a fucking nagant and i plan to get one and possibly modify a POSP scope to fit it, unless you have other suggestions?

btw - still have the original pc gamer disk w/ the first fallout demo on it...and the magazine it came w/....

oh and sniping choices would have to be a nagant, shotty would be a mossberg cruiser w/ an m4 tac-stock and foregrip, along w/ an extended cap.

and use the iron sights on the nagant, but if your gonna get one get a starlight night scope.

i have a mossberg 500 converted into a cruiser
i have 4 snail clips for it a fold out stock a accessory rail and a scope on it. i normally load 3in mag hornady sabot ed .50 cal rounds in one clip, 3in mag fliche' rounds in #2 clip , 3in mag buckshot it #3 clip, and a clip of 3in mag blue whistlers.

i'd be interested to see how a "bulldog" round would do...though i respect shotgun slugs like none other. I'd probably end up w/ a mag full of frangible rounds due to living in an apartment and liking my neighbors...

i have a few hand loads, 3in mag compacted brass
shavings, heheh, they WILL fuck a person up..
kill em badly .. but wont blow through the wall and
whack your neighbor in his lay-z-boy recliner either,
good door breaching rounds to.

yup, but it could-int be in a 2 3/4 it would have to be in a 3in mag to have the effect your looking for.

im getting ready to invest in a shorty barrel chambered for a 3 1/2 round so i lob those 50.cal
hornady rounds even further .

and if you want more capacity and you dont have any snail clips , thy do make shorty rounds in buck shot/bird shot/slugs.. good for up close
but useless for any distance.

perhaps rather than going the AR route(i'm assuming you own an ak...otherwise i'd say go w/ one...) perhaps a tavor? liking whati 'm seeing about them...and i've never really been a fan of m4's and the ilk..

If you're bound and determined to get something chambered for .223, get a Mini-14. The newer ones are assembled with better quality and you can get 30 round mags for them. Plus almost as many "upgrade kits" (stocks and whatnot) are made for them as Ruger's other famous rifle the 10-22.

i have always held the opinion that the semi auto 12 and the 10 gauge where the most useful of firearms you can use them indoors, on the front line, you can snipe with them , there are many many "flavors" to choose from in ammunition,
and for the most part they are reliable .
