Old Fallout fan, lost, need help for FTBOS
Hello gents! Good to see you're still around.
I'm digging up my old copy of FTBOS, and I'm wondering where to get updates for this game. I've finished Fallout 1 & 2, but never finished Tactics, so I'm hoping to get it right this time.
Right now, I just managed to snag the 1.27 patch and no-cd crack from FilePlanet and GameCopyWorld. I wonder if I need the "new sound drivers" (or something like that)?
Also, are there any new "must-have" patches/mods/files? And where is the best place to get them? I've been to NMA, but it seems that the atomicgamer site they rely on doesn't work well with my browser.
Any help appreciated. It feels nice playing this game again. Hope they get their act together and put out a Fallout3 that is as-good-as if not better than 1&2.
Thanks in advance!

You already wrote it but I`ll write it from the start...Firstly you will need a Fallout tactics game (uhm, really??),then let`s see:
You`ll need 1.27 GOLD patch for a good play(it`s an upgrade for normal 1.27 also includes a bonus level as fifth level as I remember-you must install the bonus level seperately after the patch), a no-cd for 1.27 version, a miles 6.1 sound patch (not so necessary), fallout tactics booster ver. 1.1 which also counts as>>Fallout tactics booster-a post nuclear optimizer.
Find some FHQ&Readme like thingies for your character creation, team, weapon and armor stats etc.
...and if you will try cheating I suggest two trainer, nothing more: BOS Edit for your team and BOSCHE 3.2 for your main character.
After you finished the game a few times there is a mod called 'Awaken' (it`s last version was 1.32 as I know), you can try it but I think it`s not worth for your time.
HAVE FUN

Thank you for the reply! Can't wait to play this game again.
I managed to install this game plus the 1.27 patch and a no-cd crack. However, I cannot get past the first town, I get a CTD. Any help?
Where is the best place to download fallout files from?
I remember BOSCHE, but what is BOS Edit? Is it the default editor? Thanks!

No problem, you`re welcomealex wrote:Thank you for the reply! Can't wait to play this game again.
I think, you cannot get any help about this also you cannot find any walkthrough about it because there is lots of ways and combinations for passing ANY situations in that game...and it`s heavily depends on your main character`s stats&skills / teammates and leveling of your squad. You are alone about that.Wait!!,no if you ask here for the point which you get struck&also why then maybe I can partially help...(You can also write down your main stats, traits and primary tag skills at the beginning of the game so maybe I can help you with your rights&wrongs about the character creation)alex wrote:I managed to install this game plus the 1.27 patch and a no-cd crack. Search the google for ''NO MUTANTS ALLOWED'' then go to the tactics download area in that page.A good and nearly official site but nearly nobody likes NMA and their forum members at here.alex wrote:Where is the best place to download fallout files from?
Bosche exists since the first fallout as a character editor(Trainer), I bet they will make it for the F3 too...If you can remember the earlier versions of this for the F1&2, it edits -only- your main character`s nearly everything.BOS Edit is similar with Bosche but it can edit whole squad`s thingies. Then why I also suggest Bosche? Because,I think it`s far more better than BOS Edit, got a better interface and easier for using. My opinion it`s better edit your main cha. with Bosche...and probably you won`t need edit your other teammates in the game.alex wrote:I remember BOSCHE, but what is BOS Edit? Thanks for the reply! I've thus far managed to get all the files I think I need to get FTBOS to run, I've just finished the Freeport mission with no CTDs yet.
However, I would like to "customise" my squad a bit more and I'm thinking of editing the files so that I have my own custom squad... no, I don't want super-soliders with 10 to all stats, just a more "optimised" squad. Any ideas for a 6-man squad?
Thanks in advance!

Nah, Nameless is OK in my book. He's slightly off the DAC mindset, but since when has that been a bad trait?PiP wrote:However if you consider how much credit he generally has in the community, I'd rather wait until someone else posts about what to install a what not to install for Tactics, dear alex.
In addition, someone with knowledge of FOT should moderate this subforum.
Call it what you want, but it's still cheating.alex wrote:I'm thinking of editing the files so that I have my own custom squad... no, I don't want super-soliders with 10 to all stats, just a more "optimised" squad.

The tough guy mode gives you extra xp, but the number of squad members makes no difference each member will get the same xp whether there's 1 team mate or 5. The only extra xp is from healing or repairing.Caleb wrote:It distributes more xp to your squad + is more easily managed. every once in a while i'd take a 4th for cannon fodder.

Well, by the end there's that mission that requires you to blow up those 6 places simultaneously, albeit it can be done 1-man, I'd recommend having a nice team by then. There are actually a few new recruits that ain't that bad. Alice, Max and Malice ain't too bad. I kept Stitch as well, leveling small guns (Yes, shotgun + EMP shells ain't too shabby, even in the end) as well as Barter, Speech, etc.
And you get a new bunch of recruits by the end.

My first play-through Farsight got a shot to the face in the first mission after she popped up...how to explain....that little shed/shack, right before you go through the back door onto a street with the basketball court, and there are 3 or 4 guys shooting at you from the SouthEast? Hope that makes sense.
Anyhow, I kept Stitch til the second to last level where you hit those buttons or whatever, and the robots pop out from behind the walls? Yeah, he was guarding one and got overwhelmed. I was so pissed.

I loaded into a random encounter and my hummer spawned ontop of Rebecca. It wouldn't drive off of her so I had to OD and kill her with drugs.
Fallout Tactics multiplayer: COOPnet and MegaCOOP map pack
Well, at least Nameless is helping with useful posts...
I'm playing with my edited squad members now, lotsa fun. At least I know I've covered all the bases (skills) I want to cover, so can't wait to see how this game plays out.
Playing with Individual-Turn-Based combat, for a more Fallout 1&2 feel. Might run a PnP Fallout campaign later too, so this gives me a "feel" for that.

I remember a mission I played (assaulting the supermutant base) that had my vehicle (APC?) spawn on top of one of my characters.... or my characters spawned under my vehicle. Anyway, I managed to roll the vehicle off, and the doc was busy for a bit.[HpA]SniperPotato wrote:I loaded into a random encounter and my hummer spawned ontop of Rebecca. Kept Stitch and Farsight for the whole game. Never had a secondary character die. EMP shells, something something, robots, something, invasion, something, fight a computer, victory. Robots, lawl.
off topic? OMG YOU'VE BEEN CENSORED... yet you're still posting. MYSTARY!!!!

Vehicles aren't much of an issue in the single player game where the only missions you use a vehicle are two where you have to guide the weakly armored vehicle (a Hummer and a Nuke carrier) through a maze of barricades and obstacles so you'll be a fool to drive them around for the enemy to shoot at (clear their path of mines and rocket ambushers with foot soldiers first), and one mission (Mutant Fortress of Doom or St. Louis or whatever you call it) where you drive around hoping the Mutants won't blow you up with their rockets before you can snipe them to death (if you lose the APC, you'll again lose the mission.)
My own squad only ever disarmed traps and minefields but I guess if you want to waste your time laying minefields in the hope that the enemy will step on that particular mine that cost you a fortune and has been weighing down your backpack, its your choice.
Armored Personel Carrier,Hummer or something else...Unless it`s one of the stupid vehicle missions I think it`s better to keep your vehicles at your current bunkers for just loading off your weight (while speaking about weight until you got a good barter skilled temporary wannabe member in squad pool DO NOT trade. If you trade buy the things only that you need also the things which you cannot find by looting in game easily. If you will sell something sell it with all of its duplicates.EXAMPLE: If you got 50 AK-47 sell 50 of them, no less...sell an item one by one and look at the cash which you take while it goes down.) uhm,vehicles...yes,vehicles :Your gunnery skills lowers a waaay down when you get inside a vehicle; you get nearly all of your enemies` bullets`to the vehicle itself(since vehicles got standart 10 A.C. unless you play it in real time mode)...they also gets double damage from splash damage/all kinda explosives which means one unlucky turn may cause death all of the squad inside or aside. Also they simply eats your action points when you want to move your ass with them.I think no one need more bad sides...vehicles; I don`t suggest them. That craps are better as containers.
Caleb is right about the mathematics of the xp rewarding but playing through the game with a total of SIX characters is better since you're playing a squad-based tactics game, you need to develop specialist characters instead of generalists...lots of specialists. You can have a maximum of six characters in your squad.Let one character
focus on one skill while the others focus on other skills.
I wish I could but I know that I can`t do it. I just got no time, a bored spirit and a busy shell combination.
