"Upgrades!"
I heard that you can get a better motivator for the Brain Bot, as well an upgrade for you car, is that true? And if so, where can I find these?
Smitty can put a fuel injector in the car, which you can get from Klamath Trapper town. You have to go thru the rat tunnels to the end, and it is in the broken down car.
Then there is some guy at NCR that will put someting called Claudia on your car. He is across from the slave pens, dressed in rags, cost $1000.
:o
Don't know anything about a better motivator for brain bot.

I just wish I didn't do it so often.

another way to upgrade the car is to get it stolen by T-Ray, then have him give you free batteries each week for the highwayman by convincing him you are one of bishop's lieutenants. Eventually, he will stumble upon some anti-grav plates and install them on the car, and the car will never run out of fuel.

LIST OF CAR UPGRADES
1. In Klamath Trapper Town, on the northeastern side of town only accesible through the caves is a fuel cell regulator on an old Highwayman. Give it to Smitty in the Den and he'll install it for $750, which turns out to be useful when you save thousands on Micro Fusion Cells, because this things cuts fuel usage in half. (The description mentions when fuel was cheap and plentiful in pre-war times, and that was why these things were rare and often discarded in junkyards like Klamath)
2. In New Reno if you get your car stolen, you can get the Chop Shop Boy to clean it up, which means nothing, and increase the trunk space by clearing out some junk, which is good! I think the price is $500, but now you'll be able to cram in thousands worth of loot, which is definately worth it. (When he said he removed stuff in the trunk, I panicked and thought he threw away all my ammunition, spare guns, important drugs, quest items, and tens of thousands of loot.)
3. In NCR, this person will do something to it, don't know exactly, but it sounds good. While you are there, pay to bum $5 to watch your car, it's not worth risking, even if the car doesn't get stolen anyway.
4. If you had convinced the Chop Shop Boy that you were one of Bishop's luitenants, after you beat the game you can then go back to him and he'll attach grav-plates, which I hear increase the speed of your car and really cut down on fuel usage.

"One More Thing."
I've gone pretty far, and I already retrieved the Vertibird plans, but I need to ask, how many Brotherhood of Steel outposts are there? And why is that one in the Den empty?

First:
Ok, no, the batteries never worked. If you ask for it, he'll say he gives them to you but never does (check yourself...)
Second:
T-Ray has a bug. As soon as you leave the map, he'll forget about you. So given you meet him before the game ends, you'll NEVER be able to get the grav plates
Third:
He has the grav plates regardless of how you convince him to get your car back.
Fourth:
The bum that charges 5$ to guard your car is actually a broken quest. You were supposed to get it stolen by Merk. Anyhoo, it's useless to pay the bum.

I think it speeds the car slightly or reduces fuel usage, but I think it's the speed. I noticed it going faster after that upgrade, but I might have imagined it :
But it doesn't cost much so I've always bought it no matter what it does.
Anyone know for sure about this?

speed... that just reminded me...
Why does it take longer than a second to rest? what purpose does waiting for time to go by serve? and why do you move so slowly on the map, cant things be speeded up, and your character moves faster but of course time consumption increases
i really hate games that have forced wait times... if its to add realism, well thats a poor ass excuse... people want FUN and BALANCE, not realism

Well, waiting times in Fallouts were balanced well, movement on the world map should be just as it were done.
And I do want some realism in my games. I'm not talking about real world weapons and stuff like that, just that all things you do in the game should be logical and explainable. People want BALANCE between FUN and REALISM. In Fallout, realism is different as in real world.
