Life After People

Tonight at 9 on the History Channel. It looks like they just translated the recent book World Without Us into a documentary. The imagery is pretty cool and there's some clips on the Life After People site over here:

I read the book last year and it was extremely interesting. All post apoc writers and movie makers should check it out.

I don't normally watch TV, but for that, I'll check if I have this channel where I'm staying.

From the first seconds I thought 'Pripiat' (thanks to old Stalker trailers) and I wasn't wrong..

edit: Damnit, I have History Channel but they're not showing this documentary here (at least until the 28th of January)

This was also featured in Popular Science and other magazines a few months ago.

Good stuff.

I especially liked the part about how the bronze statues will still be here millions of years from now.

It was a direct ripoff of The World Without Us. That said, it was still very cool. The idea of skyscrapers becoming these giant vertical forests was awesome. After thousand years the only remnants of humanity left are the biggest concrete and stone structures like the Great Wall of China and other shit.

The book went into a lot more detail. And one thing the show left out was the most important of all. Our legacy to earth and something that will remain for millions of years. Plastic. The oceans are filled with it, and until microbes evolve into something able to digest them, it will remain almost forever.

Some types of termites have bacteria that can already do that.
