I just reinstalled AvP (the first one on PC by Rebellion) and man is that a game time forgot. You have to jump through hoops getting the Gold Edition working on XP. Then tweaking it, and downloading the right tools and addons is one hell of a scavenger hunt. Several years ago there was a massive Aliens vs Predator community. Kinda like Fallout in its heyday. The major players were AvPNetwork, AvPNews, PlanetAvp. and AvPCenter (my site). The first one died after a few years, followed by AvPCenter a year or 2 later in 2002. AvPNews was run by a dude from Fox Interactive who now works for Epic. That site transformed into Gamegossip, died because Fox no longer supported them with free stuff, and now Gamegossip is on its last breath. The only one left standing is PlanetAvP, which sucks because it always had the least to offer. 1998-2002 were the best and craziest years.
I was feeling nostalgic I guess and searched through the avpnews forums (gamegossip) and the shit doesn't even go back far enough. Most of the people I knew are gone, and the biggest asshole of them all called Sadogoat left England to live in PA. Only one guy, INDY UKCM, is trying to keep stuff alive at his site http://ukcm.net/main.htm You can find my first attempts at maps there.
What's odd is I joined the AvP community about the same time as Fallout and other games such as Carmageddon, Descent, and Freespace when they were new. And this is the only one to last through the ages. The only one to continue breathing after the developers whose asses so many kissed for handouts and insider information disappeared. After reflecting I can't help but feel like we're on our last legs and Bethesda's Fallout 3 will once and for all knock them out from under us. Our existence is meaningless today when PC gaming is dominated by MMO's and shit. RPG's are dead unless those random Polish indie devs get their shit together. And let's be honest, all of the vets here are way too old to be playing games. The unofficial expansion pack for FO2 was the last hurrah.

Tactical-Ops was a crazy game. First an Unreal Tournament mod in '99, the creators eventually founded a small box in France and released it as stand-alone. I was there from the first beta till the end, probably played for at least 6 years, and man was it awesome We even had a ladder and used to war a few times a week.

Dude, i dont know what is up with your pc because mine runs the game with no probs in XP.
Try getting crusader : no regret working in xp omfw. Imfuckingpossible.
Had to use dosbox and you need a wanker of a fast pc to get the videos working and then you have to have them on small else your cpu overheats, turns into thermite and melts through your desk.

Worked fine in my XP, back when I had a PC. You want to talk jumping through hoops, try playing System Shock 1 these days.I just reinstalled AvP (the first one on PC by Rebellion) and man is that a game time forgot.
