You cannot use both at the same time, so that's a stupid waste. Melee Weapons and Kicks both use 4AP, so you can fill up 3, 4, 6+ AP with attacks (5 if you target with a kick), so why would you want to use both? Instead, take those skill points and increase your Doctor skill so you can heal and gain some extra experience, as well as get the special plates and get Living Anatomy, which is very good.
Unarmed is better, that's a fact. If you take two level 99 people, give them the same armor and a weapon of choice, one with unarmed and one with melee, the unarmed person will most likely win. I have even read that Unarmed is better for the endgame because of peircing strikes, and more perks deal with unarmed as an effect and prereq, and unarmed starts off higher than melee by 10 points, and has more upgrades, SO UNARMED IF BETTER IN JUST ABOUT EVERYWAY, EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT MELEE HAS A RANGE OF 2 INSTEAD OF 1, BUT UNARMED IS STILL BETTER DESPITE THAT, AND MELEE HAS DECREASED ACCURACY IF YOU USE IT FROM 2 HEXES AWAY AND IF YOU ARE SMART YOU HAVE 3 RANKS OF BONUS MOVE!!
So I'm right! End of discussion! UNarmed is better!!!

It's not that hard to up the Doctor to near 100 without it being tagged.
And Unarmed has it's use, but so does Melee. No matter what you say, the range of 2 makes a hell of a lot of difference in battle. '
You use 3 perks for 3 bonus moves. That's okay. I take 3 Toughness instead and my Damage Resistance jumps up 30 %. Ups! Seems like your gonna have some trouble running around me and kicking and punching , when you do veeery little damage.
3 Toughness, Implants, APA MK II and your damage resistance is pretty surely 95%.

30% insn't that much you know... that's only 1/3. And forget armor, with my saved points spent moving, I will have enough action points to be able to use peircing strikes and bypass your armor, muaha!
And even if you dont have that extra action point to move forward, (btw only long weapons like spears and sledgehammers have a range of 2), everything else about unarmed is better
and also, i think unarmed is more fun anyway, you get to use different punches, and that sure does beat a katana, and i love oriental swords
by the way... does the katana use 3AP instead of 4? I think it does... well no matter, the katana should use 2AP, and be upgradable to 1AP, because a katana is VERY fast, have you SEEN anime?
(by the way, i find it fun to actually be able to deal damage to enemies, so your 'fun melee' is BS, because scratching for no damage is very boring and leads to death, which really isnt fun)

Um, no they're not. If you rperception of reality - or your perception of what should be in Fallout - is based on Anime, you have a serious problem (moreso if the first option is the problem, and still so in the second option as Anime wimply doesn't belong in Fallout). Yes they are "fast", in the same type of way most other bladed weapons are "fast".
They're not "really really really fast, whatever the heck that proposes.

Initially I tag small guns, it's definitely a must have. When I get to level 12 i choose Tag! perk and then choose either Big guns or energy weapons and start dveloping that. You don't need to tag skills to get them to a good level, especially the ones you can improve by reading books. But I usually don't improve more than 2 weapon skills. So I'm either a melee/HtH char or a long range dude.

I never tag any weapons skills personally, and when reaching level 12, I do as you, tag enerygy weapons. Note that I've noticed a bug in that... If your skill is lower then ~20, you don't get the 20 skillpoint bonus for tagging the skill... It's weird. So basically I have to up my stats to 20 before getting the Tag! perk...
Up to level 12, the only "hard" battle you have is the one with Frog Norton, unless you want to take out the wannamingos right away (which I usually do anyhow).
Since all I raise my small weapons skill are the books, I HAVE to use the "get right in front of ennemy and target weak spot, or burst" technique, I love the combat shotgun, CAWS and Pancor Jackhammer...
Once I reach SAD then it's time for the Turbo Plasma Rifle... good old FO1 favourite...

You like doing things harder for yourself?
I assume you tag speech, what else? You can raise science with books(though I like it tagged), you don't need a high steal/lockpick skill to perform steal or pick a lock. Outdoorsman perhaps, for getting encounters? Hmm.. can't think of any other skill that I have tagged so I guess not tagging a weapon skill initially is not worth the trouble.
