watching movies with subtitles

Talk about music, movies, TV, books, other types of entertainment and what your vices are. Also, if you're addicted to the high you get off Aspirin, this is the place to talk about it.

You mean Like steam games, or just torrents?
I've only paid for one game recently I didn't read a review of, or download before trying; "Secrets of Atlantis", some 30-40's adventure game. I still have to try it.
No, actually I gave up on trying to make you rethink your consumption behavior. Clearly, money is not an issue to you.
For things I consider worth it? No.
As for merchandise which is essentially designed to be overpriced, I buy directly from stock through my brother-in-law. So I'm cutting the cost from the shops.
Even a caszim knows that small shipments don't get opened in mail in the first place. There simply isn't enough work force or resources to do that. Sending DVD's by mail is not illegal by any standard and how the hell are you supposed to know if the VAT is paid or not if it's not stated on the package?
Why bother ordering something if you know it'll be taken?
That's the general opinion, and it works fine for them.
Secondly, how exactly does your failing economy improve the effectiveness of the customs authorities? Please elaborate.
Also, I'm intrigued to know what the real customs tax for imported DVD's is instead of the 150-300% figure you clearly pulled out of your ass.

I don't know what you're referring to, regarding effective customs authorities?
We have high taxes on everything, our society is basicly built up around how you can get people to pay more. If you have a huge inheritance, you can be sure that about half of it will go to the state.

The high taxes/fees on imports are meant to discourage further outside economy.
The other day in the news, there was a report on the low dollar and how it would affect our shopping. The first thing to come up was how little we could buy for, before further tax and fees were added to imports... Which was basicly nothing, so if you were counting on importing, say, a TV it wouldn't be worth it.

150-300% increase is not an exaggeration. If it isn't true, then I've been thoroughly screwed over on my imports. Why would I lie about getting my ass handed to me?
If anything, I should be lying about how I'm screwing over the state.
Of course it's possible. However, you can't deny that the supply of high quality, high speed torrents for non-blockbuster movies is lacking. This leaves you no other alternative than to buy the damn thing.
What are we talking about? HD/DVD quality?
Pre-DVD releases?

Most screening movies are alright. Quality doesn't bother me, and I've been able to find some pretty good torrents.
What do you define as a bad one? Over half a day? More than a week?

From my experience, any good movie is attainable in roughly 3 days, from a non-closed torrent society. On closed it should be possible in one day.
Don't be so gullible. It was a publicity stunt which apparently caught your attention as well. The ultimate incentive for this stunt was none other than: publicity = increased sales. You even proved this point in the quote you posted.
It made them more money than ever. Combined. On one sale.
Why shouldn't a 20-30% comperative success not be attainable for anyone else who's made a name for themselves?
And that high a percentage would still be a lot more than any CD sold through a record company/producer.

I'll admit I'd like to see this happen a few more times, but I feel pretty positive about this kind of marketing, not because it would be good for me personally, but because it would be an evolution within media-exchange.
Of course it wouldn't be financially viable for all artists to sell their products on a 'donate, if you wish' basis. Therefore, this form of release will never become widely used.
But that's the point. It would cut the bullshit from the real deal.
Suddenly quality would sky-rocket, and mainstream media would plummet.
New names would have a harder time making a name for themselves, but that's the job of producers, to find a new way to make money and promote new artists, through the donate model or some other much much cheaper model that is internet-based.

@ smiley - mang, if you really want it i'll pick it up for $8 USD here and just mail it to you, seriously. That way it's a gift, eh?
I'll get it myself at some point, it's a nice offer though, thank you.
