As I understand it is one of the governor generals in Australia that won't allow an 18+ rating (or M-rating) in Australia; something about that children could get their hands on those 18+ games since adults play these games. And since adults play these games, they obviusly bring them home. And then, their children might play them...

I guess this guy has never ever heard of parental controls...

Before I got to your post, I was just thinking about the hot coffee thing. I don't know much about how Australian media portrays video games, but hot coffee kind of rejuvenated a debate here in America about video game content.

In Max Payne, you're blatantly abusing painkillers, and the other GTA games all had drug use and prostitution. Were these banned in Australia, I wonder?

As many things as I'd like to see changed in Fallout 3, drug use/abuse isn't one of them. I wonder if Bethesda will change their tune for the Australian market to get it past the ratings boards....?

Game has to be popular first. With any luck that won't be the case with F3.

Politicians only notice games when some crackhead who owns GTA commits a murder or some idiot suburban parent sees their idiot jock son fucking a prostitute in a game.

The original Fallout was such a niche game that no-one noticed it had prostitution and drug use. Bethesda had the cojones to include the latter but sadly backed out on the former. Ah well.
